Default AAR on Model 58

Today was the day that I took my M58 out and shot it for the first time.

I'll be honest: at first, it was slightly uncomfortable to shoot, even with the 'police loads' that an outfitter in Okie City made for me. I believe that one factor here could be that I am not used to shooting quite yet, and this was reinforced by the fact that the more I shot, the more comfortable it became. A two-handed hold helped too. The gun was mostly function-fired and about 40 rounds were expended with no misfires.

I wonder how a full-house magnum round would be to shoot. Probably about like Magnums in my 629 Mountain Gun.

The revolver is an N-frame with fixed sights and it seems to be an early one as it has the S-prefix serial number. The action was quite smooth and I'm still getting used to how noisy it is to dry-fire a S&W revolver. Before my cochlear implant, I never heard it before.

This is one revolver that I have wanted for quite a while, and now I finally have one.

Thanks, Jim

I love mine and carry it hiking more than any other N-frame.

Great looking 58 you have there. M-58's are among my favorite guns.

That's a very nice looking Model 58 that you have.

I carried one as a service revolver for several years. We were first issued the lead SWC "Police Load," but when the 170 grain Winchester Silver Tip became available, we were issued that round. It was comfortable to shoot, but it hit lower than the regulated 210 grain SWC.

I still have mine and I reload the 210 grain SWC cast bullets to about what the police load was using Unique powder. I put a Tyler T Grip adapter on mine and that makes it more shootable for accuracy and for a firmer and more comfortable grip.

My 57 and 58.

I live in OKC and have a model 58 San Francisco police gun. It’s a great shooter with the police load I’ve never fired full House magnums in it I have the monogram combat grips but I think I would put the pachMyers back on it if I shot magnums.

I have shot full house magnum loads out of my 58 . It was not uncomfortable and I just have PC Magna's . I have found that to shoot a revolver from " mild to wild " it require a different stance and hold . Don't shoot it like it's a plastic gun -- both arms out in front like 2 stiff boards . They are very accurate when you learn how to shoot them . I only have one but it gets regular workouts . When I put it in my hand it feels like I have known it forever . It just falls into my hand comfortably , and ready to go have some fun . Regards Paul

That's a beauty.
You might find it ore comfortable to shoot with target stocks.
