Default Smith & Wessen Highway Patrolman.

Hi. I am looking for the year of manufacture and additional details regarding a Highway Patrolman that belonged to my father. The serial number is S2421xx.
.357 CTG.

Welcome to the S&W Forum.

You have a Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman that dates from about 1964 or 1965. These are exceptionally fine revolvers.

The date on the warranty card refers to the date the warranty and liability statements were adopted by the company. It has nothing to do with when the gun was manufactured or sold.

From what I can see from the pictures, it looks like it is in excellent original condition. If you have the box, paperwork, & tools, keep them with it as they add to its value.

From the little I can see, looks like you have an excellent condition Model 28-2.

Thank you for the date. What is the value of the Model 2 Highway Patrolman from 1964-65 in excellent condition please?

With the 6" barrel and the having the earlier S-prefix serial number, I would say $800 to $1,000 or maybe a little more. If there is no box, maybe a little less.

Value is based on the overall condition of the firearm. Having the correct box adds value, the correct box with the documents and any tools shipped with the firearm makes for a complete set and adds value. Right now, prices are setting record highs.

Welcome to the FORUM from Michigan! Very nice 28 you have there! Good shooters. You can use magnums, or .38 Specials in it.
I have a similar 1 that is a little earlier. Model 28 no dash from 1960. It was my first online gun purchase. it also has a S serial#. Bob

I forgot to say that those stocks (grips) are often referred to as "diamond magnas" and being no doubt original to the gun add value as well.

Cool gun, congrats. I have long felt, in response to the old question," if you could only have one", well, you could do a lot worse than this one. Versatile revolver for hunting and home defense. Best, TH.
