When did Smith install pins in return springs to prevent over travel and when did they stop? Any certain mdls, custom order? All my books are packed up from move, so thanks in advance.

My understanding, only on N Frames. I don't think it was a universally done procedure, but the Target models were don that way. I know it was done in the 60's and 70's, but think it ended there.

It went into the 80s and 90s too. My 625 and 627 have them.

Thanks, what I figured, was in a late 60’s 25-2 target.

My 617-6 has one.

Those pins are all too short to do anything. If you want one to actually work as a trigger stop, you will have to make your own longer one. They have to be carefully fitted within + or - a couple of thousandths to work well.

I've made them out of long shank drill bit stock, about .100" diameter, for K and L frames. Tedious to get the length just right as they must be fitted for length to the lockwork in the individual revolver. Must put a rounded polished bevel on both ends. Work like the trigger stops put into target guns in the 70's and previous. Work great for a competition or target gun; not a great idea for a serious working gun although the pin will never fail, unlike the screwed on trigger stops could.

One in the 25-2 was ~0.001” to long, took it out as do not need it. Bummer having most books packed up....
