Default Model 56 KTX-38 USAF

Went south with the War Dept for a recent weekend getaway and stopped at a pawn shop not far from the Oregon border. It was definitely worth the stop as I came across this little piece of history. From page 257 of the "other" Good Book I was able to learn the following:

Became the basis for the Model 15-2
Produced 1962-1963
SN range of K500001 - K515205, with most reported as destroyed
Four archived at Springfield Armory Museum NHS and are NIB
Exceptional military collectors item
Too Scarce to estimate value, sale reported at $6000 in VG condition

As you can see, it came home with me! (well the pictures did at least). Not exactly priced to move but I think that's by design. I would have a hard time parting with it too.

I had no idea, thanks. It would be interesting to read his ad. I'm glad the clerk was agreeable to my pic request.

I shudder to think what the pawn shop paid some poor sucker who pawned it. Probably 1%
of the current tag price.

I sincerely hope it didn't come across his counter that way. The clerk mentioned it was personally owned by his boss, one that he's had for a few years. I didn't think to ask if it was brought into the shop or bought outside at market price.

From what I have read most of these were destroyed in the late 80’s. Since none of these where ever released for civilian sale any example out there either walked or is a contract overrun.

Thank you for sharing this info. It is great to know that this interesting piece of history survived.
