Bought this one from wetdog a member on this forum about 8 months ago. It has a few flaws and isn't collectable. Ammo prices being almost as much as gold, I haven't shot it yet, but plan to do so soon. Box lining needs to be replaced and there are a couple of minor scratches just in front of the cylinder release. Other than that it's a nice revolver.

I came into the world in 52. When I got out of the service in 74 one of the first things I bought was a M29. Montgomery Wards was a big department store that had sporting goods. I wanted and bought a 12 gun cabinate with sliding glass doors. They had two M29's both with 6 1/2 inch barrels a blued and a nickel. I paid for the cabinet and put the M29 0n lay a way. I went with the nickel as the blued one just didn't appeal to me. After I wrote the final check for $175 I was off to college. I'm sitting at home trying to figure out why my checkbook wouldn't balance. Mom looked at it and in five minuets she said Wards cleared your check for $1.75 not $175. It took for sets of glass door for that gun cabinet before I got a set that wasn't broken so I wasn't concerned about their accounting error. I left the money in my account for 30 days. I was never contacted about the discrepancy and haven't balanced a check book since.
I recently added another M 29-2 a 4 inch blued example. Now I'm looking for a 4 inch nickel. I have 19's and 57's all 4 inch blued and nickel so another M29-2 is on the list.

Ha! I really never dreamed about owning any .44 Magnum. Not ever, not even after Dirty Harry. My favorite .44 Magnum was a Model 94 Winchester lever rifle that I bought during my cowboy action shooting days and I sold it to the same guy that I sold my 3" M629 to because I never really liked it much and I told him that he needed a rifle and handgun in the same caliber.

In the late 90s the 629 was offered to me for around $350 so I bought it because I could and figured I'm supposed to own one. Shot it, didn't like it, kept it around as a house gun loaded with .44 Specials, saw an opportunity a few years later to sell it for $900......pffft....gone and forgotten.

I know, I know, blasphemous, sacrilege, I get it, but I don't like 1911s either so I'm a pistol heretic, too.

A few years back I bought a very nice 29-2 with a S&W scope mounted for a very attractive price. He was a Ruger shooter and just couldn't warm up to the Smith. Anyway the gun had a 1lb trigger pull and the action was smooth as glass. I was stoked.......until I shot it. I just couldn't get it to group. Measured the throats and they were .433. I traded that gun off and made do with a 4" 629 until a couple of years ago when I happened upon a pre Model 29 at a show and bought it for a reasonable price. The old .44 Magnum has proven to be very accurate. Joe is currently re-lining the box for it.

Back in the day I too jumped on the bandwagon and had to have a 29-2 8 3/8" after watching all the Dirty Harry flicks. I used it mainly for silhouette shooting and hunting. That gun was quite accurate out to 100 yards or so, maybe farther but that was the best I could hold with two hands. After a few years passed I sold it to a friend who still has it.
I purchased a 29-2 4" just because I wanted to have one and when the 29-10 came out, well I just had to have one of those too and bought a DH badge to display with the gun ( I know, they really don't go together but what the heck, just for fun).
Of these two revolvers I love shooting the 29-2 4" the best, kicks like a mule and throws a nice fireball.
