Considering purchase of this revolver for target shooting. It is about the same frame and weight as my ruger GP-100 357 and seems as though it will be a great target and practice revolver. Can any one comment on this one. Also, would the four or six inch barrel be best.

Welcome to the forum!
I have a model 17, my neighbor has the 617, 10 shot. They are both fine guns. The 617 is a very accurate gun, and will give you a ton of pleasure whether plinking, target shooting or hunting. Buy one and enjoy it!

I have a 6" 617 10 shot, and I just bought a K22 6" from 1948 that I haven't fired yet. I also have a GP100 6". The 617 is great practice for the GP100 IMO. I would stick to the same barrel length as your GP100.

I have a 6" 10 shot 617 and it is an excellent .22 revolver. You will really enjoy shooting one.

GP-100 is a little bit heavier than the 617 The actions will feel different but both are good guns to have. I'd go with 6" on the GP

I predict you will fall in love with the 617. IMHO the double action trigger pull is better than my K22's an 17's. I have them with irons and red dots, 4 and 6 inch. They all shoot very well.
My favorite .22's to shoot are the 617 4 inch with Ultra Dot 30, 617 6 inch iron sights, 17-6HB no lug 4 inch and the M41.
They are all fun and very accurate. I shoot almost exclusively double action except when testing ammo off the bench.

lee,
this is a very good gun to practice with. lots of fun too. was my first gun, got the 6 inch to complement my 6 inch 686. I think it would also go well with the gp100.

And just to keep your interest, there are speed loaders available for the 10 shots.

Kenny,
Do a search for DS-10speed
Great stuff. Don't forget to get the loading block as well.

Welcome to the forum!
I shoot both a 6inch Model 17 K-22 and a 4 inch Model 617. I found the full lugged 6 inch model 617 to be a bit too muzzle heavy for my taste. Both are very accurate and fun to shoot. I prefer the Federal copper plate bulk pack ammo since it's easier to clean up the barrel and chambers.
