Custom 25-2 is Back, w/Range Report
After a LONG wait I finally have it in hand and it now hits point of aim with it's new front sight blade. I am putting my letter request in the mail today to find out who it was delivered to, with the hope of discovering who did the work.
The trigger weighs in at 9.75 DA, but feels much lighter with the smooth target trigger and fantastic action job. SA is a light touch at 2.5 with an exceptionally clean break. Included are pictures of the shroud mounted ball detent for forward lock up and rounded target hammer. The grip frame has been round butted to K RB specs. with Pac K Compac's. It feels like I'm shooting my 2 1/2" RB 66-1 BTW, the barrel is 2 3/4 inches with perfect crown.

It looks like they milled out the underlug so it could have a full length ejector rod?

This is a grail gun for me! Looks fantastic. I have a 629-6 2" But that pocket cannon is a little much with Factory 240's!
My preferd 45 SD ammo is federal 230 gr original Hydra-Shoks, I keep a clip in my 1917 and in my 625 of 1989. I picker 2 bags of 100 full moon clips from Browelle's several years and keep an ammo can of loaded 200 gr RNFP loaded with 5.5 WW231. It's a nice mild load that punches thumb size hole in groundhogs, and knocks steel plates down with authority!
Usually the Brazilian 1917 is with me in the woods, I think of it as a 5" Mountain Gun.

I was shooting factory 230 ball It is very pleasant to shoot. I finished off with a WW II shot shell. 20 inch pattern at 5 yards.
No marking on the barrel. Don't know if it started out as 6 1/2" or 6". Aug 1980 ship date.

Please include a picture with the grips on it. Very nice revolver, I hope the rear blade can be moved down some, looks awfully high or is that the issue you had addressed?

The front blade had been cut way low at some time. The new blade is a touch too high, but that's an easy fix. At least it does now put rounds in the center. Here it is with grips and the old front sight. I'm going to try a taller rear blade before I take anything off the front.
Getting My 25-2 Back
I think who ever cut down the front sight was dyslectic.

My opinion (and a $1.10 will get you a bad cup of coffee) is the original mutilator, cut the front sight down to try for easy extraction from a pocket (especially a rear pants pocket) during concealed carry. Also tall front sights require a "Guide" in most leather holsters adding bulk and complexity to an otherwise simple scabbard.
W4, thanks for restoring a total bubba job!

I really like this revolver. It just looks right, must be fun at the range and would make a great woods carry gun when bird hunting.
Nice job on it.

By the way, the Jovino gunsmith used to tell me the one-piece Pachmayr Compac's they used to put on the Effectors never really fit 100% perfect. I gotta find the part number, but there is a Ruger two piece substitute that fits slightly better, in case you ever want the original Pachmayr look again.

I noticed the strange fit but they feel good and solid. Is there a key feature that is found that ID's the gun as a Jovino and not one of the other smiths that do this work?

An official letter from the Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation stating your specific serial number was sent to NYC at 5 Centre Market Place is pretty much the best proof it's a real Jovino gun. I was told by the Jovino gunsmith all the (.45cal) Effectors came originally from a large heavily discounted dealer bulk order of long-barreled revolvers from Smith & Wesson to the store. This is discussed on the " John Jovino Research Thread" found elsewhere on this forum.
While it is conceivable a customer's Model 25* outside of this order could have been brought to the shop to have the Effector modifications performed, this would have been exceedingly rare (my Effector is one such revolver); in such a case, only a Jovino invoice for the work done could really prove provenance.
*...or 29, or 57, or 686, or 629, or Astra Terminator

Retired W4 - Not sure if you caught this other thread from a forum member who received his S&W Historical Letter back with good news: here.
Hope yours comes back with the same.
Also, while you wait on your letter...you don't have to reveal it, but if your serial falls within the range mentioned in the letter, that'll be a good sign.
