Default A Quick Model 19 Question

Couple days ago, I was in a gun shop, and briefly looked at a P&R model 19. I believe it was a 19-3, about 95%-97% blue, well timed & no issues I could see, 2 1/2 inch barrel, with original grips. No box or tools. He was asking $850.00

I am not up on K frame prices, especially these days. Fair price?

Larry

I'm afraid so. Prices have risen so much lately that the M19 in question sounds like a good deal to me.

Fair is a metaphysical question .

But that is in line with current prices .

Sadly, if you’re the buyer, that’s probably a pretty good deal. Be sure to check for forcing cone cracks.

To Fishinfool:

Unfortunately that seems to be true most everywhere. I saw a nice 19-6 2.5"; gun only no box or paperwork, a few months ago right at that price...but someone beat me to it by a few minutes. Haven't seen one since at LGS or gun shows. Jump on it before someone else does, you won't regret it!

Now where was it at again exactly? Just kidding....go get it!

$850 is a fair price in today’s market.

I would also say "Buy It". I have a 19-3 2.5 that I got from the curator of the Booth Western Museum several years back. It is EC+. I put it on my tables at the last show at $1200. It got a lot of attention, but no takers yet. Of course that is my "I don't really want to sell it" price. To the right person (local) I would probably take $1000. I'm in no hurry, and people like to look at it.

I have the exact same pricing policy when I get a table or two locally...I'd just as soon go home with all mine plus a few...That policy seems to be misunderstood by many who think I'm just contributing to the SWI index (Smith & Wesson Inflation)...Mine belong to me, and not to those who yet wish to own them......Ben

Retired W4 and Truckman:

Curious......lately...when you have them out on the table, do you get a lot of tire-kickers that ask you to accept ridiculous low-ball offers? Especially from the ones that can't keep their hands off it and ask a TON of questions? I see that all the time at gun shows and just roll my eyes.

SWI. I hear that. I keep my high condition stuff under glass. That way the guy that just took his hand out of a box of buttered popcorn can't do any damage. The folks with a ton of questions obviously don't know much about classic firearms, and I try to educate as well as I can. Most people who come by know us and are tuned into what is on display.

Today I have prepared a little quiz for my buddies for this weekend. I will give them a date, start off with an easy one like 1957, and they'll have to say what happened. Then something like 1965 (SS M-60). You get the picture. 1982, Most should know that one. Something to pass the time when the place is over run with the compact 9mm crowd.

John, I can't speak for everyone, but I accept the tire-kickers as interested in what I have to display...All my guns are under glass in latched display cases leaving only the glass to be Windexed for fingerprints and drool...I get some comments from people who wonder if mine are for sale or not, since I don't put price tags on them...Unlike most vendors I'm not there for profit, but to improve the quality and quantity of what I've accumulated...If someone asks, "How much is that one?" I'll consult my little coded book for the answer...Some of my numbers from that have an N suffix for non-negotiable, meaning I'd rather keep it until I acquire a better one...

Many of the people I talk to are repeat visitors who like to talk and ask questions...Others recognize me from my former gun store ownership, or even my previous gun show centered business...I'm happy to carry on conversations with them, although at times there are several folks wanting attention...I consistently get comments on having the most attractive tables at the show, and I work hard to maintain it...

The lowballers are just dreaming that I'm either desperate for money, or unaware of the value of what I own...Neither are correct, but I don't mind wasting their time if they don't mind...If I sell a couple and make table and lunch money, I'm happy...If I rehome more and make up for the expenditures I incur when I'm traveling looking for new "family" members, I'm even happier...

I'm well aware of the ATF rules governing collectors, and I'm also aware of the state comptroller's desires to enforce sales tax laws...I do my best to comply with all......Ben

These days, that is a fair and average price. Correct box and papers would easily add $100.

Appreciate the replies. Looks like it is a fair deal, but I am going to pass. I have no real use for it, and the more I think about it, the money is better spent putting towards a P&R N frame, or a new Anaconda.

I'm not selling my 19-3 but $850 is not enough to part with it.

Assuming it is in as good a shape as it appears that is a very reasonable retail sale price in the current market.
