Default Model 15-2 date of manufacture please

Hello everyone:

Isn't there SOMEWHERE on our fabulous internet with a comprehensive data base for serial # info for ALL of S&W's firearms???

MY gun show find today (8/29/21):

Very dirty Model 15-2 4" serial number 267K776

Very clean now...lots of scratches and crusted material in the cylinder flutes (all gone now). Took off the wood grips and put on the square butt Packy grip I took off a Model 10 I sold a few years ago. This gun had an impression of once having had this same grip on it. All bluing off bottom of trigger guard due to body salt corrosion ... gun look like one of those "carried but never fired except fpr qualification" guns, even though there are no police dept markings...usual holster wear on edges of barrel...

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, Lihpster...

I've never invested in one of those thick books with the small print. I suppose there's just too much information to put it all on line.

She cleaned up fine and really is a classic looking handgun. S&W always makes/made the best looking revolvers.

No sweat, Bob. I better get some use out of that thick book! Those 15s are wonderful guns. I only have 2 myself. I'm sure you'll fall in love with it!

Bob, you sure that's a -2? Is it a pinned barrel? That serial # puts it at the date I mentioned but the 15-2s were only produced until 1967.

I always have said the M15 was one of S&W's best efforts. I believe I have a NIB-2, and 4 -3's( 2 are unfired) and a nice 67 no dash. Oh and the -3 shown.

15-2’s were made until late 1967. Can’t be 1982. Or the serial number is right but it’s not a 15-2.

Ya know, you can always get the Kindle edition of SCSW 4th Ed. at Amazon, put Kindle on your phone and computer, and always have that "online" reference you want. I did that as well as the hard copy.... perfect portable reference and always have my reference book handy.

My 15-2 K-38 serial # K6537XX was mfg in 1965 so better check mod #. Wikipedia says mod# 15-5 was 1982. Hope the OP enjoys his as much as I do mine.

If it definitely is a 15-2, then something's wrong with the serial number. Are you sure it isn't a 15-4? If so, that would put it in 84-85 time frame.

a 267Kxxx gun would probably be a a 15-4 if it is still Pinned barrel, and 15-5 if the barrel is not pinned. That sequence of #'s should date to 1982.

l picked up a 2'' Nickel 15 awhile back. Square butt, plain clothes/rounded magnas. Once belonged to a South Carolina Sheriff. l've always felt 2'' Model 15s looked more like a Model 14 snubby. Model 15 barrels are tapered. Model 14s are not. 2'' Model 10s are tapered.
