36 Chiefs Special - Gun Show Find
This Lil Darlin went home with me this past weekend. I had a table at local show near Birmingham with some S&W's I was selling. An individual attending local show walked up and pulled this Chiefs Special out his pocket and asked if I was interested. When I saw the condition and noticed the flat latch, my interest definitely grew. I asked, what you looking to get for it? He said $500. I then asked him, would you take $500 for it? It always catches folks off guard when I respond that way. It's even more fun when you offer a little more than they ask. I love to see the surprised faces. I think Gun Shows should be fun, and I have a blast.
There was no box but I knew there was one at home that would be period correct. Boy was I surprised when I got home and noticed how close the box I had was only 38 numbers apart.
Does it get any better?
Thanks for letting me share my new find.
Ray

I know you paid way too much for a used gun, but I will bail you out.
Is PayPal f&f okay?

What a beauty. Deals like that are getting more rare every day. The internet has made it so everyone can now over price their firearms. 😊

The finish is fantastic, nice one!
I know the flat latch is the value but I don't like it on mine. Will keep the parts for keeping the gun complete but upgrade it to a later style that has more beef to push.

That one is a beauty! The box being 38 apart is amazing. They were probably sitting on the same table at some point in the S&W factory!
(Please karma, bring me one like this!)

This is why we need gun shows, freely operated in pre-pandemic mode. Unrestricted commerce will bring down some of these looney inflated transaction prices on Internet sites. $500 for an ANIB Mod. 36. Wow!

How fun. It's always a great day when you purchase a box-less gun and find that its SN is a close match to a gun-less box in your collection.
Congrats and thanks for sharing,

Very nice pistol. I’ve got the same one from a year or so earlier . . .

It's a very good deal, until you do the math. I say this ONLY so folks don't feel buyers take advantage of sellers. Gas, food, lodging, the investment of time acquiring guns/items to sell, loading/unloading, etc., etc.
Buyer got a good deal, as did the seller. This particular buyer makes out better than most, because he enjoys doing the shows. That takes a HUGE cut into the "cost" of time. When it's no longer fun, buyers/sellers are taking a beating, no matter how much they pay/earn.

That is a very nice looking Model 36. I would have brought it home with me too. Actually IMO the asking price was "priced to sell", and nobody took a beating. I would simply clean it, wax it, and put it in the box with no further alterations.
