Hi! I have a usual question: can you tell me the age of this very nice 10-5 I found? Serial D703***.

Nice one. 1974-1975 for that D prefix serial number range per 4th SCS&W.

Thank you very much! Bytheway, are round butts more rare than square butts? K-frame I mean

In the first decade after WWII, that was certainly true (at that time it was just the M&P, not yet the Model 10). But I would not call either style "rare." And, by the mid-1970s I don't know that either one was particularly scarce, but that is not a period on which I am any sort of expert on the Model 10. I can say with confidence that all the 2" Model 10s, regardless of grip frame shape, were less common than the other barrel lengths, particularly the 4". But in no case were any of them "rare."

I always thought the lack of 2" K-frames was a shame - I like them more than I like J-frames. I can shoot them better and you get an extra round.
Most of the 2" Model 10's I've seen have been square-butt versions. I'd love to get a hold of a round-butt model one of these days.

I bought one because I stumbled on a good deal and it's born in '73 like all great things .

Those are getting harder to find. Wish I could stumble upon one at a reasonable price (if there is such a thing these days). Great looking revolver.

I never paid much attention to the model 10 or 2” revolvers for that matter until recently when a friend offered a beautiful 1964 2”. That started something and then I ran across a nearly new pre 10 M&P 2” from my birth year 1948. I’m afraid I’m now addicted.

K-Frame, 2" round butt, is a great conceal carry with a quality pancake holster. Never had any problem qualifying on the LEO courses with it including rounds from the 25 yard line. . I shot just as well with it as a 4". Carried my Model 64 for many years that way. Still have it. Note the 1976 price of $145 on the box.

Congratulations, that is a really nice Model 10! BTW, the grips are worth maybe $150-175 by themselves.
Haven't had a chance to show off my own 10-5 for a while, so if y'all don't mind. Square butt nickel, about 1970-vintage. Here she is with my two nickel Model 15s...

My pair of two inch barrel 10-5s. The square butt shipped in 1971, round butt shipped in 1972. Both wearing Fuzzy Farrant stocks.

Yep. Condition is important, of course, but the 80's vintage optional grips have really gone up in value.

I have a "Wanted" ad in the Classifieds here for a 2" round butt Model 10. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

A 10 no dash I have on layaway at LGS. I lucked into it when I found it. It was tucked in the bottom corner of the used gun case. Hopefully It'll be in my hands soon.
