New to me 17-3
Did you ever get one of those guns where as soon as you pick it up you just can't miss? I bought this one off GB at a decent price because of poor pictures I'm sure. I knew the seller had a good reputation so I went with it.
It turned out to be like new condition with a TH and TT just as I like them but with rubber grips. I've got plenty of grips but while dialing it in, I found it to be like a laser extension of my hand. Just can't miss, so the grips stay.
Sorry about the poor photos, it was getting dark.

New to me 17-3
Oh man, you're gonna love it (even more as you go). While I have a number of K-22's (both "pre" and model 17's), my favorite woods companion is my only "3T" M17 no dash from 1960. It'll be in Michigan's squirrel woods with me next week! Enjoy yours!

Very nice! I have one I need to shoot, but that is the story with so many of my guns. I did recently get a 3T 17-4 8 3/8" from a fellow forum member. Those military fellows really know how to take care of a weapon. Looks like new

I know exactly how you feel about your 17-3. I just picked up a 17-2 from GB as the only bidder for $600, got it from my FFL a few days ago and was thrilled that it's condition is near perfect.
Solid lockup and timing, no end shake and a smooth 8# DA and 2# SA trigger. The unrelieved target stocks are a plus. My first range trip yesterday at 15 yards off a bag, after a few slight sight adjustments, it was shooting 1" groups with CCI SV. For me, considering my tired old vision, it's a personal best with a handgun.

Wow, that’s a great find! Lots of guys/gals think they can’t find an “affordable” older K-22, but if you’re patient they’re out there!

Those are the best.
I have a 1959 17-2 and a 1965 17-3 and love them badly. I am not sure which one shoots better.

A Model 17-3 was one of three S&W revolvers I bought new when I returned from my second year in SE Asia. I still have it (and its box) and it is one of my favorite revolvers. It has taken countless grouse, snakes and hares, not to mention punched hundreds of holes in tin cans and paper targets. It was the first handgun all of my kids shot. I would not part with it for the world.

Well done, I would get rid of the Goodyear grips and find some original ones. Love mine, will never sell it. Mine's a dash 4, it shoots better than I can.

Nice pick up, I stumbled upon a 17-3 myself several months ago and snapped it up at a good price, they are fine shooting revolvers.

I have a 17-3 and my best friend has a Birth year 1958 17-2. I almost lost my 17-3, my wife picked it up and said she really liked it! I reminded her that she needed a semi auto to keep in practice with her CCW, so I let her have my 422 4". I am such a considerate husband!

I bought my 17-2 off G.B. around 5 years ago. Pictures were not good at all. So, I called the seller who was an older gentleman. He assured me that I would be happy! Got it, and was! As mentioned by the OP, it was accurate in my hands with no adjustments. Of course I took the rubber grips off. Have Diamond Magnas for it, and several others. I need to shoot it more! Bob

Nice purchase. The K-22/Model 17 is a really nice revolver. I shoot my 8 3/8" 17-4 near as accurately as a rifle.

The only thing that surprises me about this thread is how surprised people are when they discover for themselves how well they like their newly acquired K22. For many years it’s been an article of faith among shooters that one can expect great things from a K framed 22 S&W with adjustable sights.

Discovered the 3T 17 back in '79 when I bought a new
Long Tube.
It outshot every other .22 caliber handgun I had,
Colt, High Standard, and Ruger.....hands down.
It still rarely stays home on any range trip.
For me though Moosedog, I couldn't live with seeing
"goodyears" on a classic gem of a 17 in my safe.

I understand, but this is my new utility gun. I've got several other K-22's in my safe, Rubber grips are ugly but functional. I've got several boxes of various K & N frame factory grips in case I start to get nauseated.

You have a very nice 17-3, sir. It will provide you with many years of enjoyable shooting.
I picked this one up a few years back and set it aside for future use. There are a couple of others that I carry to the woods when the occasion arises.
This particular gun came gently used with the box when I purchased it from an acquaintance. IMHO the 17-2 and 17-3 models have some of the deepest, most lustrous blue I have seen on a handgun.

The K 22 is an addiction I cherish. I have a pre 17 and two others one with the 3T's. I have a couple of M18's and 34's but my all time favorite is the K22. Mine will also be with me in the squirrel woods come Wednesday.

There's no recoil, so rubber seems like overkill. I use the smooth one-piece wooden Jerry Miculek grips on my 17-3.
