Smith and wesson 66 proof marks
Does anybody no were the proof marks are from thanks.

The golden eagle indicates that this is a German proofmark. The "N" stands for "Normal load". As there are multiple proofhouses in Germany each of them has got its own mark - your revolver absolved the mandatory proofhouse-procedure in Ulm (a city in Baden-Wuerttemberg) in 1973 which uses the deer head as their specific mark.

Odd location. One usually finds the Ulm stamps in sequence next to each other on barrel root and adjacent frame. But there is no rule. None of the factory-internal stamps you show on the yoke cut photo are part of the proofs.

Agreed, especially in the '60's through '71 but then have a '72 19-3 and '83 M57 that have it on the frame; and a 11-83 M19-5 that has it in the yoke cut. I'd say it's the proof house but they're all Ulm...and the '83 57 has "IC" instead of '83' and the 19-5 has "11 83" instead of just the year.

That's peculiar. Does the 19-5 look like this? This is a 19-5 I brought to Germany in 1983 and sent to Ulm myself to get proofed so I could register it. It's the only yoke-cut proof stamping I've ever seen.

IT IS! ABSOLUTELY like that! Eagle over N under the 83 and everything! Barrel proof on the underneath of the shroud.
What I love is the brown packing tape with green Ulm antlers they sealed the box with after they proofed it.
