I recently picked up a nickel 29-2 with the wooden presentation box, tool kit, and paperwork. The gun was in near mint condition but the case was bear bones. It had the plastic insert and foam without any fabric. I decided to first test my skills on a plastic plate before attempting the box. I was more than pleased with the result. The hardest part was being the only guy in Joann's fabric and waiting 30 minutes for them to cut the fabric. It isn't perfect but i was more than pleased with my first attempt. Here is before and after pictures including the plate lol!
Can you give us anymore details about the process? How did you select the fabric? How did you fasten it to the plastic? How did you get it stretched with no wrinkles? How long did it take?
And lastly more pics of the 29 please. JA
The process was much easier than I thought and took less than 20 minutes. I got the fabric at Joann's and bought 2 yards. I picked the fabric closest to the SW blue and material. Luckily the fabric I got was somewhat flexible to help mold into the plastic. I used Fast Tack auto upholstery adhesive since it was safe on plastic. I just sprayed a light spray on the back of the fabric with a heavier coat to the plastic and foam. Then I worked it into the groves and molded it to fit flush. You have to work fast before it dries. I then let it dry for 10 minutes and cut the access fabric. If anybody in the Dallas are wants one done please PM me. I can work for ammo or a little cash.

Saw this old post. I have done this with the styrofoam with good results. I used stretch velvet, which allowed me to stretch the fabric somewhat to work into the depressions without too much wrinkling. Used spray glue which is easy but also easy to spray to much and soaks the material or too little and doesn't stick. Need to seal the strofoam. Still working out the details. I used dark blue since that was what they had, but I like the color better and i am not trying to fool anyone. I have some green and royal blue now. Working on making inserts right now.
As you can see in the image, the color/shine changes with the angle you are looking at the fabric and the way it is put down.
