29-2 4" Value
My local gun store has a 29-2 4", case, no paperwork or tools, Asking $1250, looks to be 95% condition. Good value or not? thanks.

Yeah, and in 1970 I paid $5400 for a new Corvette.
Good price on the 29-2.

That's a little high.
29-2 covered almost two decades and the earlier (S prefix serial #) tend to be worth just a little more.
Of course, grips MATTER. Proper era-appropriate target grips would be a must for that price. I often see the 80s era grips on 60s and 70s era S&Ws for sale. Very bad sign.

I assume it's blued, since most people immediately say if it is nickel. Not a terrible price if the finish is 95% or better, but the earlier in the dash-2 years, the better, for the price; like gkitch said, an "S" prefix (1968 or earlier) would definitely make it worth the coin with the 4" barrel.

Hello Friends, I have a friend offering to sell me his beautiful 29-2 blue 8” in the wood box with the original receipt, papers, and cleaning tools. The only issue is that he replaced the grips and can’t find the originals. He claims that he has never shot the gun and it seems possible due to the fact that there are almost NO turn marks. This thing is really nice…how much should i offer to pay?

I sold this one 6 years ago for $1600
If you don't jump on it give me the name of the seller - PLEASE!

Fair market price from a retail store, I would hope to not have to pay that from private party.

If it's in 95% condition with original stocks and presentation case, that's a fair price IMHO. And if you have the Benjamins in your wallet, the gun store may accept a slightly lower price or let you have it for $1250 OTD. I'm seeing blued 4" 29-2s at local gun shows in much worse shape than that one and they're asking and selling for $1500+.
J-Rock: FYI- You should start a new thread for your 8-3/8" Model 29-2 and not jump into the middle of this thread. It's Forum "courtesy", and you'll probably get a much better response if you have your own thread.

If I could get my Shelby GT350 back for what I sold it for I would Karma one of my 29s.
Or maybe a 629.

You won't find a lower price, as long as its in good shape and has the original grips.
I'd run, not walk, back there to get it.
I paid a grand for mine about 4 years ago, before all the lunacy. Now those things are going for double that easily.

Congrats on your purchase. You'll love the gun. I have one and paid more than you did however the price is soon forgotten with the enjoyment of ownership.
