Default .22 J frames

I am fond of the J -Frame .22’s
and have more than I need .
I have found that the 6” model 35
Preforms better for me off hand
Than the 4” or the 2”.
Of bench not much difference between
Model 35 and 4” model 34 but the 2”
Model 34 gives me fits.
If I put big grips on the 2” gun it
Helps but I still can not shoot it
near as well as a4” gun and the 6”
Is way easier to shoot well.
I believe I am going to sell the 2”
Guns.

The short sight radius on the 2" guns isn't very forgiving at the range. Neat to look at, but frustrating to shoot well.

All 2" guns are for up-close and personal....All are difficult to master. Use at very short range, and they come into their own...fast into action, but lousy sight radius. Great for smaller person who is recoil sensitive. Try shooting a 3" .44 Magnum....a wake-up-call....

If you decide to sell that snubbie .22 I believe you'll find a favorable market.

Dave .357, have you had any problems with double action ignition? I had a M34 years ago and DA was always iffy. I polished it, installed a heavier main spring and nothing helped. Single action was 100%.

Having a model 35 makes for some tough comparisons in accuracy. It sets a very high standard.

Longer barrels have a definite accuracy advantage.
Like the Beretta 21a Mouse Gun.
Not sure I could hit a mouse with it!
Have 2 - 63s, 2 and a 4.
Advantage to 4 inch for sure.

Default Love my J frame 22's

I have:
34 Nickle 2" Square Butt
34-1 Blue 2" Round Butt
63 SS 4" Square Butt

I definitely shoot better with the 63 4" but I so love to admire the two inchers!

My 34 is curious in that the serial number M679xx makes me think it should've been a -1. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks

No problem with ignition , I was shooting
CCI standard velocity and have not had
any trouble. I was mostly firing single
action , but did try double action but
found tiny gun tiny grips double action
did not equal tiny groups.

Seems I have to install a new mainspring every 5 years or so. But yes, after a while double action ignition will get iffy. Then it's time for a new spring. No big deal. I've had mine for about 40 years and I shoot it A LOT. Seems to be less of an issue since I reamed the chambers to ease fired case extraction. I'm thinking the tight chambers kept the rounds from seating fully and part of the hammer's energy was taken up seating the case in the chamber.

Running low on .22 J’s an 3” are as short as I wanna go.
The 317-1’s are lightweight but heavy triggers. The 63ND is my favorite right behind the K’s.

I've got but 2.
A 2" Model 34 with a million miles on it (my favorite .22 revolver) and a 4" Model 63 that hasn't been fired in over 30 years. Joe

I also have two. A34-1 and a 43. I shoot them all the time. The 34 REALLY makes me concentrate on the front sight.

My luck. I have 8-9 J-frames 22 & 38. Never had on not go bang when you pull the trigger........They are all original too.

Sell the snub. You probably will not miss it other than maybe the novelty of saying you have one.
I had one, once, and that was enough. Challenging little beast to shoot. Short sight radius coupled with the usual J frame rim fire miserable double action trigger pull (the SA left plenty to desire) and the blush came off the rose quite quickly for me.
There will be folks who disagree with me but if you have a hard time being accurate with a gun it is hard to enjoy it.

Hey another thread that I can chime in on. Picked up the mod 63, 8 year's ago which is one of my favorites and both the mod 34-1 and the 34, 2 inch are new in box and unfired. And as hard as I try I can't bring myself to shoot them. Maybe next year.

A lot of nice small frame 22's in this thread. As for fun shooting my 51 is my least favorite, but I still like them.

I have a 34-1 2" and a 317 3" mixed in my Js. I don't find the '34 particularly hard to shoot but I am more of a point shooter than sight shooter. I hit where my mind sees it, just how my brain works...

I have a 34-1 with 2 inch barrel. It took a while to learn to shoot it. I took out my old Charles Askins book on pistol shooting and followed his suggestion to start at very short ranges and shoot a lot until you can hit well. I shot at a 10 foot distance for several months and then went to 15 feet until I was as good as I got to be at 10 feet. And then to 20 feet and capped it off at 25 feet. Now I can place the shots into black at 25 feet and very happy with it. These short guns are for short distances and if you flog yourself that you cannot shoot them like you can your 5 incher you are being needlessly hard on yourself.
