M29-2 6" 1/2 bought in PARIS
Dear friends,
it's a long time i havent written in this forum. Proud owner of a gorgeous 27-2 5" barrel with orignal presentation wood case box and original documentation and cleaning tools (bought in Paris as well), i recently put my hands on a marvellous M29-2. According the serial number, i believe it left the manufacture on 1972 (N696xx) can you confirm?
The blue is dark and deep and still very glossy. not a single scratch. Accuracy is more than perfect. What do you think ? i tried it at 28yards (25meters).
Only regret is the previous owner inserted his initials on the stock. Dunno what to do except looking for an other stock but it will not be original anymore..
Denis.

Looks nice. If you want to keep the original stock - maybe replace that silver insert with one with your initials?

Beautiful revolver! Too bad about the stocks. You could put another pair on there and keep the originals. Not ideal I know but it doesn't take long to switch them. Keeps the originals from getting damaged at the range.

That’s a handsome Model 29! Since target stocks are not numbered to the gun, my suggestion is to find another pair with the football relief that you really like and switch them out. You can always tuck this set away.

Nice looking revolver.
I agree with Tim. The target stocks were very rarely numbered to the revolver. Find a factory set you like that is appropriate to the era and put them on. Having said that, I am not sure how easy they would be to obtain in Europe.
Best of luck!
Kevin

Nice gun.
Good shooting!
Ebay is your friend, when it comes to looking for grips. Not sure about all the legalities, regarding shipping wood grips to France, but there are international sellers (think Thailand) making wood grips, and some are very nice, even if not original. Do a search for "N-Frame Target Grips". There is usually a good selection of original, as well as after-market stuff.

Nice looking Model 29-2. It most likely shipped in late 72 to early 73. If you decide to replace the stocks make certain they are correct for your 29-2. Notice the area where the stocks meet the trigger guard and how they curve downward in this area (reverse C?). This extra amount of wood was deleted in late 1974 or in 1975, so stocks configured like this would not be correct for your 29-2. Just wanted to make you aware.

Stock question N Frame Targets
First, congratulations to the OP for that very nice find, and in Paris yet! Seems you are a darned good shooter too from the 28 yard target! I have been medically advised to leave the Magnum shooting to someone else, so last month I sold my 1980 Model 29, and my 1980 Model 27-2 Nickel.
Question for the experts: Bill mentioned above that the "extra wood" (the reverse C) was done away with around 1974/1975. Unless I'm not seeing something, it looks to me that both sets of stocks on my 27-2 and the 29 appear the same as your 1972. The 29 Lettered to December 31, 1980, the 27-2 Lettered to May 8, 1980, and both were all original, in wooden presentation cases, both cases are Type 5 mahogany, and had the guns pointing right which I understand was correct for only a couple years around 1980.
Are the OP's grips most likely "original" with the initials added, or possibly a later date. I've looked at the beautiful examples shown in Bill Cross & Roy Jinks wonderful book and it is really hard to pickup the "extra wood". They all seem to tough the trigger guard at the same spot.
Sorry....I don't mean a thread drift and again congrats to our colleague in France.........that really is a gorgeous find!

You guys have got me thinking with this Wood Removal Info.
Could you post a comparison pic of both types ?
Which type do I have on this gun?

Great looking 29-2! My guess he was shooting a Lead Semi Wadcutter and he missed one.

Hi, there are french made lead WC bullets 200grs. I reload in magnum case, not special.
All my shots are done at 28yards since it is forbiden in every french range to shoot behind this limit. All visuals are 7,5".
Denis.

That's not a miss! We call it a flyer! When you can call the flyer, after the shot, you have perfect trigger control! Very good shooting!

Could you give us a brief rundown on gun laws in France? I don't think that's understood very well in the States. I for one wouldn't have thought you could have such a handgun...

Hi Starman. I'll write in my bad English here in respect of our 'merican friends. Here in Italy , as in France, factory stocks are available on used market on websites as Armiusate.it and Naturabuy.fr
They don't appear very often, I'd say two or three pieces per month, and they can come at fair prices but sometimes crazy ones. K/L targets usually are sold for 50* to 120*, when N frames square butt are always scarce and pricey. I love aftermarket vintage grips, impossible to find here (older Herrett's , Fitz, Cloyce, Hurst, Fuzzy Farrant, Spegel and so on). Absolutely inconceivable to find Ropers, Sanderson, Kearsarge. Anyway, even it could be possible to buy them via Web in US, it is difficult to ship them and local national importing fees would severely increase the total costs. Moreover, nobody here will understand and appreciate the craftsmanship behind these pieces of wood art.

Would love to visit Marseille some day.
Is gun ownership fairly common?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Firearms ownership for sport shooting is about 200000 citizens, 1.2millions for hunters.
France is 63 millions citizens.
