Model 15-3 2 inch with serrated .312 trigger.
The Catalog of Smith and Wesson says that Model 15 with a 2 inch barrel came with a smooth .312 trigger. Also says that there was one reported with a serrated trigger but not confirmed. I have one with the .312 serrated trigger. Anyone else? Pic attached.

Mine has a grooved trigger also. I'll try to remember to send Supica a note for his 5th Edition.

This 15-3 was ordered with RR/WO in 1974. I has a serrated trigger, but that is not mentioned in the letter. It was shipped to Simon Atlas Co. in Washington, DC.

AFAIK, almost everyone's is serrated. This is either a typo or an actual error in the SCSW which has not been corrected, except repeatedly on this forum.

Your trigger is .265" wide, not .312".

I'd love to know where all of you have found these 2" Model 15's.
I learned to shoot in the Air Force in 1967 with a Model 15. Two years later I was an instructor/range officer for that year's basic cadets...with the Model 15. A dream summer assignment. So the Model 15 is tied for my favorite handgun (with the Colt 1911).
But in all my years of looking in gun shops and shows I have never found a 2" Model 15. I could probably overcome my bias against 2" barreled revolvers with square butts to purchase one. IF I could find one at a reasonable price.

Sad to say, FPrice, but in several years of looking, I have never found one at a "reasonable" price. The market on all S&Ws, in particular pre-MIM/pre-lock has gone through the roof and will never get better. I gave up a long time ago looking for a 3 1/2" M27 for that reason. Not denying their value, just gone past where I am willing to go at age 63.

Depends on where you look...Right now in a Cabela's in Minnesota, there is a 2" nickeled 15-4, but when you said "reasonable" you probably didn't have in mind the $900 they're asking... ...Ben

They just happen...
I am still looking for one in nickel. Happy hunting
The one in Cabela's Gun Library looks pretty rough for $900. May clean up...

I looked for one for years. 15-3. Found mine on a friend’s table at a gun show. $500, wearing a set of Pachmayr Compacts. I ordered a set of grips from Thailand. It’s my favorite gun. Serrated trigger. The marks are oil and fingerprints. It’s not pristine, but it’s better than the pictures

Unfortunately the "nickeled" also knocks it out of contention. Have had a few problems with nickel finishes going bad.

Triggers wider than .265" are flared on the sides to fit in the frame.
A few milestone dates regarding grooved triggers:
• Serrated trigger change order March 18, 1929 by F. H. Wesson on all .32-20, .38, and.44 Hand Ejectors, .265" wide. Change trigger pull on all HE Models to 3 ½-5 ½ lbs ordered May 1, 1929. So in 1931 I believe the K22 began life with serrated triggers.
• 1955 - Target trigger N (.500”) grooved introduced early 1955 until between 1980-99. Much later than 1955 the .400” grooved and smooth target was introduced. The .320” smooth combat trigger became standard ~1986 and all optional target triggers dropped soon after.
1986 - New smooth forged combat trigger became standard: .312” J, .312” - .320” K, L & N, including MIM triggers, and in 2003 MIM .340” X frame trigger.
The only optional .312: grooved trigger was for the J frame. I've never seen or been able to confirm a factory smooth let alone grooved .312" combat trigger before 1986 for a K frame.

Snw19, Muley, and Hondo have given you the right answer. Your trigger is .265 rather than .312, and there's nothing uncommon about it.
But, you started a good conversation and made the experts put their thinking caps on.....I enjoyed reading it.

Found this one recently thanks to a friend. Paid $600 otd because the $500 he asked for was too low. I added the elk grips made by bigmtnman.

The OP post got me looking in the 4th SCS&W regarding Model 15's. I have a 15-3 4".
Under variations on page 212 it states 20% premium for factory nickel and 20% premium for 2" barrel.

Always wanted a 2" model 15.
Never found one locally. Never found one online that wasn't highway robbery or a bidding war.

Premium X 2 for mine. The crazy thing about it is I once sold it, w/regrets, and a year or so later the guy came in with it for sale. I got it back and with me it stays!! And no, the diamond center magnas are not original, but they do look cool.

Just so I'm clear on terminology ...
... is "Grooved" and " Serrated" the same thing ?
I think know what "smooth " is ... like a babies bottom ...no grooves or lines or checkering ...right ?
Still learning,
Gary

Grooved and serrated are the same. Just like the grooved backstrap on higher-end S&W revolvers.
Smooth is self-explanatory, no?
