It won't last long, somebody local will pick it up pretty quickly. Should be easily worth the asking price if it's in 95% or better, box or no box.

Yeah I agree that’ll go quick! If I didn’t already have one I’d be after it.

Default If it is clean that is not a bad price in todays world.

Especially if it is an ummolested S series gun. Somebody that knows what it is will jump all over it. You do not see those every day. They are somewhat of a niche market. But a lot of people like them

I expect it will move quickly at that price. I own one and it is my favorite back country just-in-case bear and cougar handgun. Back when I was still working I even qualified with it a couple of times just for giggles.

Was still at the shop last Friday, the right person just hasn't come in yet, I guess. Don't want to add another caliber, and just got a 25-5 a few months ago, or I'd jump on it. No expert, but aren't the service pistols like this kinda rarer than 57s?

They never really could find a market. A few police departments issued them. San Francisco, San Antonio, and a few others. But they were just too much pistol for a lot of smaller officers. And they would oftentimes issue them with hot ammo which made it even worse.
I lucked into a good deal on an S- series LNIB a few years ago. And I like it and shoot it once in a while. But steel N-frames are just too much for a regular carry piece.

The last one I saw in this area was about 5 years ago. It was Magna-ported, had a phosphate finish and Pachs. Sold for $850 within a week.

Yes, they are rarer than M57's, they weren't in production as long. SCSW says total production between introduction in 1964 and discontinuation in 1977 was about 20,287. They were reintroduced in 2009 as part of the Classic series, but no mention how many; these were M58-1. The M57 original production ended in 1993 with the dash-4, was revived in 2005 through 2009 with the dash-5 and -6. Personally, I don't count the reintroduction models, and am only interested in anything prior to 1982, which are both no-dash models. I have one of each, both "S" prefixes, the M57 is from early 1968 and the M58 is from 1967.

Put out my ANIB 1975 58 this weekend. Lots of lookers but no one coughed up my "I really don't want to sell it" price. No problem. I really didn't really want to sell it.

It sounds like we have similar value systems...I display mine under glass with no values shown at all...When someone asks, I consult my little list which usually results in speechless shock, but not always...I'm there to buy and trade, but if someone indicates intentions to provide a good home for one of my pets, I'll occasionally dicker a bit...

I'll be setting up my tables tomorrow for this month's Conroe wingding, and I've revised my value list upward a tad for those Smiths that almost accidentally sold last month...With any luck, I may come home with a population increase for my safe......Ben

I called the shop this morning and the gun was still there. I bought it. Another one that will go to my Sweetheart eventually.
Thank you Rogerwnuss.

That sounds EXACTLY like mine. I gave $350 for it back in the 80s and it will NEVER be for sale again!

So 50 crisp $100 bills would not pry it from your gnarly fingers???????

No, I won't. I have had two of them in the past and sold them off. This one stays in the family.
Hopefully I can pick it up today.
