Default Was caught off guard at gunshow..

I never chat with guys in the parking lot of gun shows walking with a case... but I just blurted out.. "looks like you are having fun, anything interesting? "
his reply was "Only if Smith & Wesson's are interesting ".. pulls out a nice shooter grade 25-2 6 inch... "guy wants to maybe trade for it.. my table is in other building..." and off he went.. saw the other guy fondling it and smiled at the guy.. about 30 minutes later he was back at his table with the gun.. examined it closer.. some muzzle wear.. not nice scratch on barrel.. Hogue rubber grips.. but generally ok shooter condition.. inquired asking price.. "some revolver guys told me 900-1200.. I am thinking 1000..." no box, no tools, no grips... I politely said "not today"... did I screw up?
but on my way out original trade guy was fondling it again..

I don't think so. If you could have got it for $800 you'd be ok, but as described it's no big deal. The 6 inchers were early 80's guns. Older ones were 6.5 inchers.
They are great guns so you might as well wait and get exactly what you want.

I have a 25-2 6", but it has no bluing defects and came with a nice wooden presentation case and all the un-used tools. I paid $1200 for it. I probably could have found a better price somewhere. I think you could do better as well.

Very common gun. If I didn’t already have a nice example, I’d think about it at $700 to $800

I would have made an offer or maybe just grabbed it. Been looking for a 6” one since the 80s when I competed in PPC. I have a 6 1/2” one but that is 1/2” longer than the rule book allows!

Or, I might have asked if he would trade for a Model 25-5.

Went to the range with a friend a couple weeks ago. One of the "new" guns he was shooting was a 25-2 in 98+% condition (with presentation box and papers) that he had bought recently at a pawnshop for $900. A really, really good deal I thought. . . .but I'd have passed on the one you mention too.

It is amazing what the prices have risen to over the past 2 years. for some who haven't bought anything in a couple years, you may need t adjust your thinking on values. I have been spending some time reviewing completed on-line auctions and seeing the prices actually being paid.

You never screw up not paying a grand for a $700 gun… just like you don't screw up by not buying something you really weren’t looking for or want just because it is there… and then calling it a rescue.

The last several M25s I've tracked had a median sale price of $1,200, with a low of $840, and a high of $1,719. I don't include really low condition examples.

As H Richard said above, if you haven't been tracking hammer prices in the last couple of years your sense of what's "normal" may be well behind the curve.

I sometimes wonder what "normal" means...

Does the tide bring in new change twice a day?

I think when we pick up and look over a S&W revolver, buy it, shoot it, like its shot group: the value goes up, if not but to ourselves.

Jovino Model 25 makes a difference.

Any ideas on a prelock 4 inch 625 thanks

I don’t know that I would buy my two 25-2s in that 900-1200 range. I like them for what they are, when I got them and what I paid for them a few years back. I am just not sure that I would have to have them at 1000 bucks.

As for my 625, I am a bit more partial to it because I am a .45acp fan more so than a .45 colt. This one I would not let go for a grand, that is for sure.

Traded into these two for 2400 for the pair and was tickled pink. Even tho it's a 25-5, it's gorgeous, and I have always loved the pretty polished wood boxed N frames from the ....70s? Whether 25s, 27, 29, even had a nickel 57 for a while, even tho I never had one round of 41 ammo. 😊 They're works of art. Last 25-2 I had, was traded for 450 as I recall, more than a dozen years ago. But not only have they gotten scarcer, the money is worth way less.....yeah, I don't think I'd have paid a grand for the one as described, but things change. I once turned down a brand new in the GI box Inland M1 carbine, cause the guy wanted .....700 bucks!!
