The hard part will be finding a way to mount a red dot on a fixed sight revolver.

There are mounts that replace the adjustable rear sight on guns that have them, but not yours.

I would guess the only way is to drill and tap the top strap.

Wish I could be more help. Soon a bunch of people will tell you not to do it, but maybe someone will have an actual solution.

Good luck.

Easiest and safest way is to trade it for a Glock and get an RDS for it.

Welcome! A set of Crimson Trace laser grips may be a non-optic alternative, otherwise agree having a gun already prepared for mounting a device would be best.

Why would you even attempt to mount a red dot on a gun not built for it? Drilling and such just ruins it. Okay, I think red dots are useless on fighting handguns, anyway, but that's just me. Still, if I had to use a red dot, for any purpose, I'd buy a pistol designed for the task.

As was mentioned, CT laser grips could could be used if you wished. These are LG 207. I don't think I would alter your gun, but that is only my opinion. Bob

Here is your solution:

Please, for the sake of all that is holy, don't molest that Model 64.

Red dot ( an optical sight which projects a red dot over target from the sight mounted on gun)
Is vastly different than a laser ( see post 6) which projects a laser from gun to target
A laser ( crimson trace grips) is easy
Red dots require a mount and as mentioned drilling on the frame not advised by me either
For mounting a red dot sight get a different gun designed for it.

On those fixed sight revolvers, there’s not that much metal on the top strap to put a mount. Especially if it requires any kind of milling.

I also wouldn’t go with a dot for cc; having said that, if you just want a fun-gun for whatever, anything can be done if you throw some money at it. If it’s a 64 like mine that I round-butted from square because I preferred it, any original value is already lost. You can take one to Tyler’s Gunworks and they can thicken the backstrap with a welded piece; then mill and tap the correct mount you need. I wouldn’t go halfway and risk a shoddy job to save the $$$. Go to the best and cry once, as they say. If you were Jerry Miculek, you could just ask S&W to do it; since he has trended to red dots for competition pistols and other guns with his eyes going. However, there is only ONE Elder God, sooo… best call Tyler’s or one of comparable quality.
