"V" is a prefix for a World War II "Victory" model. Technically, your question should be posted in a different sub-forum, but someone will probably move it shortly.

Depending on whether it is an original 2" snubby Victory, and depending on the originality of the finish, it could be a lot more valuable than a typical Model 10 snubby. 4" 38 spl and 5" .38 S&W are much more common.

edit: Oh, and Welcome,

Your gun is actually a Victory model M&P in 38 Spl, which dates to around 1943. The Victory guns started in 1942 at V1 and ended in 1945 with V8XXXXX. They didn’t refer to them as Model 10s until 1957.

A couple pics that show the barrel, the extractor, and any symbols stamped on the gun might help the experts here to give you a better idea about what you have, and whether it was a military model or not. For example, there may be stamps indicating whether the gun was shipped to England, or remained in the US, etc.

I know you intended this as an estimate, but I though you might like the benefit of some of my research.

The highest number I've actually seen with a V prefix is V765425.*

SV guns started shipping in January, 1945. The lowest SV number I've located is SV732261. It shipped to the Navy on June 29, 1945. The book says that SV guns started at SV769000, but I've found a gob of them with lower serial numbers.

According to Dr. Jinks, revolver number SV802722 had the highest serial number of guns shipped to the Navy. It left Springfield for Norfolk on August 13, 1945.

* I have not looked at the Victory Database here on the Forum lately, but it may show a V prefix gun with a higher number than V765425.
