Model 53 stuff
I am always looking for S&W parts on EBay. Recently I bid on ($350) and lost a Model 53 22lr cylinder which finally went for $687. Hey, I only paid $750 for my 6" model 53. I also have 6 S&W revolvers in 22lr, so that was too steep for me. I hope someone here with deeper pockets than mine got it and enjoys it.
A set of 6 original 22lr inserts went for $256. That is $44.17 each.
Every once in the while I see where someone wants to convert a Model 53 22lr cylinder into something else. DON'T
PS last time I talked with Bowen his supply of blank magnum length K frame cylinders was long gone.

Wow, I'm happy (and lucky) , having this one...
Anyway I agree: these prices are crazy!
Post Scriptum: I know, VCI paper is not original of that era.

The aluminum fluted handle SAT's with the long tapered blades that were supplied with the early Model 53's are getting harder to find and consequently selling for around $75 these days. The tapered cotton mops for the cylinder that were unique to the Model 53's are also scarce and pricey. I suspect most of the swabs were actually used for cleaning and discarded eventually.
I made a couple by just trimming some .357 cotton mops down to a point with a pair of sharp manicure scissors. They work just fine and I keep one just for squirting a little Naptha on to swab out any oil in the chambers before firing.

I just bought a Model 53 supposedly first year production (1961), 8 3/8" with the original inserts and the extra .22 LR cylinder...No box though...I think I'll start looking around for a walnut presentation case for it with the appropriate molded insert and the tools...I've never had a 53 before...It's not here yet, but here's a pic from the seller... ...Ben

I was watching that cylinder. When it was around $250 I decided that I would bid $400 near the end. Well that didn't work out. I'm glad I didn't get it even at my price. I have 5 other S&W .22 revolvers so the cylinder was just eye candy to go with my 8 3/8" Model 53.
