I just picked up today a 25-2 Model of 1955 45acp. Been wanting one a long time and I'm thrilled to acquire it. Found it on one of the gun forum classifieds on another site for $440 shipped.
Anyway, it's got the largest set of grips on it I ever saw. Does anyone know the origin/brand of these grips. Was there a specialty use for these?
Thanks

I can't explain the large base on them for sure, but those are Hogue monogrips.
Perhaps, the owner wanted something to counterbalance the barrel?

OK, makes sense now. They screw in at the bottom into a clip just like the Hogue rubber grips do.
Very bulky. Nice wood, but I don't like them at all. No original grips came with it, but I'm certainly not complaing for the price.

Well...maybe its a real tack driver and them big ole honkin grips are for when ya run outta ammo...then you can still drive tacks.
Or 10 penny nails as the case may be.
Sorry, but you asked...

After looking closer, I believe they were designed for some type of two handed hold. Look at the bottom chunk of wood. It has what appears to be finger grooves for the weak hand. They are too far down for anyone to reach the trigger with the strong hand from that position.
I'd hate to meet the person who thought that was the right way to hold onto the gun.

If you send those back to Hogue, they'll probably put them back to original condition for you. Heck, as good as they treat customers, they might not even charge you for the repair.

I believe Hogue calls them "Big Butt" grips. I think they are for shooting from prone, designed to rest the bottom of the grip on a shooting mat. FWIW.

Kind of limits the gun's utility for concealed carry, don't you think?

Yes Broker50, I found out they are Hogue Big Butt grips designed for prone competition to set on the ground shooting in the Bianchi Cup and International Revolver Championships.
