Hi folks,
A friend’s elderly father passed recently and he was hoping to get some info on a gun left in the safe. It’s a blued S&W .357 with the following numbers stamped on it: 95514 with A22 directly underneath. And 37K8424 and MOD 19-4 underneath. We are trying to ascertain year it was made. We understand value is subjective with a lot of factors. Condition appears good to very good but doesn’t have wood grips. Has the Hogue monogrip. Thanks in advance!

25K001 – 56K9,999......1978 – 79 The serial number is 37K8424, and the model is 19-4.

The other numbers are just assembly numbers.

More specifically, the 37K numbers are from 1978. It could have shipped the following year, but the Combat Magnum went out the door pretty consistently in that time period.

The Combat Magnum in the Model 19-4 variant was made from 1977 until 1982.

Thank you gentlemen. So it’s a “K” frame Combat Magnum from 1978. Without seeing pictures and just taking my word that it’s in good condition (no rust and clean), what is a fair price to ask for it? Thank you.

Have a look at this post for measuring the barrel length (apologies if this is something you already know):

To IDENTIFY your Gun >

A nice 2.5" model 19-4 may go for $900-1000, but a 6" in the same condition perhaps $700. Subtract a little for the non-original grip.

Alan is in the right ballpark. He didn't mention the 4", which would be about the same as the 6"
