64-2
i ran across a model 64-2. it has 1 7/8 barrel and a pair of round to square S & W grips.
i am guessing it has been polished. they didn't nickle plate stainless guns did they? round to square combat stocks?
a bit confusing in it's current configuration.
what do you folks think. apologize for ****** picks.

As much as I would like a 64 snub, that is way too shiny for me. It is stainless steel. If it is yours, you could get it bead blasted if you wished. If it is not yours you may want to pass. Bob

I too have been fooled into thinking a stainless gun was nickel. Picked upa model 60 in a shop one time and said out loud that they didn't nickel plate model 60s...the manager reminded me it was polished. I like shiny but nickel, please.

10 minutes with a gray scotchbrite pad will fix it.

S&W standard stainless finish was a satin finish, so someone polished it, so technically it's not original. If the price was right or could be negotiated, and it was mechanically sound, I would not pass it up.

Way cool! Not original, as has already be said, but what the heck, it looks really sharp!
Great carry gun, or bed side gun. Should be fun to plink with too. Whats not to love..

I think they were factory target stocks at one point, then somebody modified them.
Man, that thing outshines the sun!

I can’t believe in 2022 that anyone would think that these pictures are acceptable. I get people may not be professional photographers but these types of pics still show up all too often.
Onto the gun. I have one of these I got as a LE trade in, what was under the original magnas was not great (rust). It cleaned up ok but I would definitely check under the stocks if I were interested in this gun.
Here’s my 64 snub, I also mothers mag polished mine but not to the extent as this one.

i can't argue about the quality of the photos but wonder, is no pic at all better. would you be more satisfied with no pics.
i'm curious, is unacceptable just one persons feelings or a forum standard issue. seems a bit trivial to me but then again pics or the lack there of doesn't offend me.

I think it is the glare from the camera flash reflecting off of the nearly mirror finish is what is detracting from the photos.

The pictures are ok. Sure they could be better but if I wanted to really closely examine them, I would copy, enlarge, and do some photoshop type magic on them.
What I really want to know is ---
When do you offer us a drink of Texas Vodka and/or Crown Royal?

Some people like "shiney". I have a 64-5 three inch that I got thru a member of the forum that is polished as well, but at least I have one and carry it almost every day.

I’m not offended at all by the pics, I just think that anyone trying to sell a fine revolver for what I assume would be about $400-$600 should take a step back and ask themselves if the pictures they took are their best foot forward to generate interest and a potential sale. This extends to other things like cars/motorcycles for sale, even houses or real estate. Pictures can help a seller net the most for their property, or they could do an injustice and turn away potential buyers.
All the seller would need to do is turn the flash off and go to a shaded area in their backyard during the day, and take a few pictures. Would it be better to have no pics at all? No, but unless the seller only wanted $200-$300 for this gun I would just say thank you and carry on with my day/week.

Grips look like they cover the back strap so I'm guessing they are the Thai imports a lot of people seem to like.

Some people shoot better with square butt stocks ... I know I do .
At one time square butt was the normal ... Round butt was optional .
So many liked round butt S&W makes just about everything with the round butt now . I'm hanging on to my square butt's . My model 64 is square but it isn't nearly as bright as yours ...
Still it's ...SWEET !

SVT, thanks for the photo advice. i just took a few cell pics when i first brought it home. i've been advised to take pics outdoors in natural light before. i am working days. dark going and coming. daylight savings time and all.
oh and yes i did make a deal on the revolver. another silver trade. same young fellow that i got the 34-2 from. his luck at finding Smiths is impressive. we have made several trades in the past. he's a semi auto guy but picks up the Smiths for me. really good young man. thanks again, kenny

I know of at least one verified factory high-polished Model 64, because I own it. Here's a pic -

+1 on SVT28's recommendation. I wonder how the shooter would deal with direct sunlight!
