Default It was time to pick up a 19

One of those wanted guns that the right one never showed up.

I just wanted good shooter condition.
An acceptable price point.
A barrel 4" or less.

This late 19-2 sufficed.
4" barrel
Good shooter condition with some muzzle wear.
An unabused recoil sheild.
Price not insanely at 650 OTD.

It "had" a nice set of targets on it but diamonds are forever.

Looks to be a very nice M19 for $650. Would be hard to find one around here for that price in today’s crazy market. Congratulations. 👍

Nice find .... at a really good price.... congrats!!!

20+ years ago I realized I "needed" to replace the 2 1/2 and 4 inch 19s and 66s I'd sold or traded away over the prior 15 years...... it took me almost 5 years to find the 4 P&R guns I wanted in the condition I wanted;....locally!

Along the way I added a couple of nice 4" shooter grade; both a 19 and 66.... also a couple on nice 586s.

I foolishly sold my Model 19 back in the mid ‘70s but was lucky enough to p/u a four inch Model 66 a couple of years ago for $600.

Wow, nice job! 650 for a clean Model 19 with target stocks, trigger, and hammer qualifies as a steal nowadays!

Considering the inflated prices of everything these days, for what you got, $650 was an absolute bargain!

Crazy good deal, those diamond GA stocks are worth $250 alone.
Btw what year is it?
Usually see those stocks on late production 19-2's.

The 4” is the best barrel length in a 19. Very nice gun. Congrats Paul.

WOW thank you all.
I'm definitely glad to finally have one.
I'm pretty much priced out on Smith's and finding this it can end well if it has to.

Hi buddy
I'm not sure of the exact year.
The serial is K 783998 so I think 67-68.
The diamonds I added from my woodpile. The ones on it when I bought were pretty nicely grained silver washer GA targets. I didnt think they were correct anyway.

As an aside for other grip junkies.
If you have a set where the finish isn't perfect but still to good to want to refinish.
I've had great results just evening out the bad spots with 0000 steel wool then waxing.

.
Paul, My 19-3 is pictured here with its original targets. The serial number is K894815. I believe it is from 1968 or 1969. Maybe your GAs are original? I realize diamond escutcheons were phased out in late ‘60s. Anyways, just figured I’d add to the discussion.

Thanks John....it's the silver washers that make me think the grips are later. If when I took them off they were the black oxide ones I'd think otherwise.
A curse of being a junkie

Very Nice grips and gun too.

I bought my 19-4 way back when it was new. Since then I have replaced
original stocks with Herrett's Patrolman stocks. I sent it in to S&W for a
tune-up about twenty years ago, and while there I had them put on the
McGivern gold bead front sight and patridge ramp. It was the first S&W
I bought, but not the last. Prior to it, the only handgun I had was an H&R
9 shot .22.

The model 19 is shown with a few of it's favorite holsters
2nd from left by Seventrees.
3rd from left by Lawrence.
4th from left by Berns-Martin.
5th from left by Lawrence again.

After seeing the three you took to the range today, I am sorry I had to work! I’ll take a rain check next time.

You don't need a rain check.
You do need to try something though as it may have your name on it.
IIRC it was one out of 15 that barely caught the X and I'm sure it wasn't it's fault.

Very nice Paul. I have no idea what that would go for around here. Have not seen one in years. Everything here is stainless and black plastic. Hardly ever see a vintage anything, and of course we have no gun shows
