Bought a 10-5, the gun on the outside seemed to be used but not abused, however, when I got it home and broke it down to clean it; it was really, really dirty. The other thing that bothers me is after it was reassembled when the trigger is pulled in double the sear seems to catch on the trigger and makes a very loud clicking noise, it will then slip into place. It seems delayed to me, like it is catching on an uneven area, or has a burr, or is offset somehow.
I have a 10-8 and it has no such issue neither does my 15-3 or my 17. Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated, I did lightly polish the area of the trigger where it makes contact with the sear.

I know from very expensive experience you can polish anything you want in a Smith but NOT the sear area. The sear engagement are is so fine that one little slip in the wrong place will ruin the gun for single action

Have you tried it SA to see if the sear still engages??

Did it do this BEFORE you played with the innards?

Send it to S&W for a good going over.

The sear still engages in single action.

No it did not do this before I took it completely down, but it was so dirty that several parts were "sticking" because there was so much oil and debris in the action. Not saying that I couldn't have damaged it, but I do take my other Smiths down from time to time with no ill effect.

Well I guess Smith and Wesson is the last resort I was just hoping that there may be something I could do too it. It was bought as an inexpensive shooter and I really am not looking to dump a bunch of money into it.
