Default S&W 19-3

Who can resist a P&R 4” model 19-3 made in 1971 for $ 675 ? I certainly can’t

It’ll pair nicely with my 1972 model 66

Or who can resist even a 6 inch -4 in nickel made a little later for $703 found a few weeks ago; certainly not me. And the stocks on your -3 are magnificent!

Wow, that's a really nice 19-3 at an extremely good price. The only 19-3 I have is a Texas Ranger Commemorative from 1973. Mine is a shooter, not a safe queen. It seems from the posts I've seen lately from Forum members in Switzerland, Italy, and Finland that there are a bunch of vintage S&W revolvers in Europe and that they are selling for well under USA prices. I'm jealous! Enjoy!

What gun did you use to stick up the former owner of that beauty? You most certainly stole it for that price. Those are about the nicest color GA stocks I've ever seen, they're worth 1/3 of what you paid for the whole package.

I may move to Switzerland if you can find guns like that for those prices.

Back in the day, didnt the 19 use to be an expendable tool like a B&D drill?
Shoot hot or soft and if it broke just get another one. Yea they got loose, just tighten them up. Flame cut? spin a new tube in it. No big deal.

I carried a similar one when I was in Law Enforcement. Good, solid revolvers.

I have two 19-3s. Great guns. Both of mine lead tough lives in police duty holsters but to me are still looking good and shoot great. One is hard chromed and for whatever reason all side markings on both sides were buffed off leaving only barrel and serial markings.

As I said previously, they've got some very nice vintage S&W revolvers over in Europe! Now CLASSIC12 unveils another beauty- a Model 57. He probably picked that up for about $250! Sweet! I've got a nickel 4" bbl. Great revolvers!

Beautiful .41 Magnum, and you still got it for a good price. When you add in the savings you got on purchasing all of that ammo, you did great! .41 Magnum ammo is very difficult to find in the USA right now (manufacturers are concentrating on more popular ammo like 9mm, .38 Spl., etc.), and when you find some it's selling for around $1 per round or more. Crazy!

Very nice Classic 12!

Question for the S&W Model 19 experts: I have first dibs on an estate sale 4” 19-3.

There’s a lot of wear on the bluing, especially on the cylinder. It’s wearing non-factory stocks with finger grooves. Otherwise appears tight. Owner shot mostly .38 Spl handloads thru it. We’re still dickering on price.

My question is: is a 19-3 a round butt or a square butt? … And in either case what would be the correct factory grips for it?

Thanks.

A 4" would be a square grip frame typically. One could I guess special order a round butt grip frame but I have never seen one like that. Grips would typically be Magnas but the order could have been for target grips too so no telling until you letter it.

The 2 1/2" M19-3 has a round butt. The 4" and 6" M19-3s have square butts. You might occasionally encounter a special order 4" M19-3 with a round butt, but these were not catalogued.

No, on the Combat Magnum, GA target stocks were standard with 4" and 6" barrels. Only the 2 1/2" units had walnut Magna stocks (round butt).

Hard to beat the old S&W models (M10, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19, 27, 36, 60, 65, 66, 586, and so on) if in good shape - that is what I've chosen to collect.

I think you are saying that a target grip is standard, and magna grip would be special order right? I thought there were square magna grips? Like this: Smith & Wesson Factory Grips Service Magna K L Square Butt Refin 16106W G | eBay

On the Model 19 Combat Magnum, target stocks were standard. On Models 14, 15, 17 and 18 (all of those are K target sight revolvers) the Magna stocks were standard, with target stocks being an extra cost option.
