You might be okay up to summer of '81 for a pinned barrel, serial number matching grips, and the small logo on the left side of the frame.
The combinations of those three things get a bit sporadic after that (sometimes earlier for non-serial numbered grips).
Your N and K frames are gorgeous. Best wishes finding a J frame mate.

Murphy Dog has a linguistic point.
"Doomed" typically means something which will inevitably fail or otherwise end up in a bad way.
Here, however, I believe "doomed" is understood to refer to the inability of the "doomed" person to resist the irresistible siren song of a long-wanted Smith & Wesson.
