That is a fine Model 19-2 you have there, sir!
It is easily worth $1000, and probably more. The blued front sight is a big plus to many collectors, as are the target hammer and trigger. The presentation case is likely not original to the gun, but it does add value to the package. At auction, you might get a lot more than my estimate.
Again, very nice gun!
Edited to add: Those are also very nice target stocks with the diamond around the escutcheon. Probably made of goncalo alves wood and quite valuable on their own. I should up my value estimation to $1200, minimum.

Very nice,
Generally the 3", 2.5" and 4" versions are in higher demand but you just don't see many nickel 6" 19-2's making your gun desirable to collectors,
Your serial should be around 1963-64 acording to the SCSW making it a very early 6".
Agree it's at least a $1k gun and more to the right buyer.
The process if pinning 19 sight ramps to the barrel ended around 1970 so the post 70 front site which was then integral became nickel as well.
On a side note the pre 1970 nickel 19-3's also had a blue front site but you don't see many of those either.

Very helpful - I found the right pages in the catalog which helps nail down the year as you describe.

Your Model 19-2 is a very nice example that probably shipped in 1964. The case is one of the unusual ones shipped with a few early Model 57s. The origin of these cases is unclear and there aren't very many encountered.

Thanks for the information.
My stepfather was a representative/distributor for S&W. I suspect the case was something he obtained to show the gun at gun shows. But it's just a guess. He probably ordered the gun directly from S&W. I have a '64 Colt Python I just got the factory letter on (it's unfired in the original box with accessories, test target etc) - he ordered that one new in '64 as well (also nickel plated) through his business.

If I were you, I'd get a letter ASAP. Your gun has provenance that makes it much more desirable than "just" a clean nickel 19. Since your uncle worked for the company, there may well be more info of interest than you have already. You'd easily make back the cost of the letter and then some.
