Picked up some "special made" S&W grips
Being a grip junkie I had try then.
My dealer used to work at S&W.
He had the grip guy make up about a dozen sets like this with larger checking.
Cost for him was coffee for the week.

Those are definitely different, Paul. I have seen on numerous occasions where checking went smaller. Keith Brown does it all the time. I don't think I have ever seen it go in the opposite direction. I'll be interested to hear how they feel at the range.

Almost could have done a skip line pattern like on 1911 grips.

Not like. But, I do not like stock Smith grips anyway. First thing that I do with any Smith that I plan to shoot is change the grips.

I think very similar and around the same time frame.
I do like these because they are different.
Optically I like the normal checking better.
These do have a much different feel to them.
A more controlled feel.

Its great to see sets like these and learn the reasons behind them.
Including this set I have seen 3 or 4 sets now with different details done at the factory. Custom by/for employees but made in the factory none the less.
I will make sure not to write off grips right away as non factory made. The checking style is not for me but very cool to see!!

"Picked up some "special made" S&W grips"
Paul;
The grain in those look like rosewood to me. What wood do you think they are made of?

Hi Mike
It is like rosewood or is rosewood not exactly sure.
The light stuff like these I've heard called Honduran rosewood not sure if that is correct or not though.

Paul...the stocks you have are made of rosewood, Honduras. Used by S&W in the 1970s and early 1980s.

I like it. Finer checkering looks nice but the bigger works better for my hands and functionality is most important to me.
