Default Hanen Special or late production model 15?

I have been looking for a 14-2 or 14-3 Hanen/Dayton special this past week, and discovered in my search the later -5 through -7 model 15s are equipped with target frames and heavy barrels. You really have to look twice to tell the difference. The pinned 14 barrels don't show up so well in some seller's pics.

These later model 15 revolvers just aren't model 15 like with the frame and barrel change. That tapered barrel in my opinion is what distinguishes a 15.

So... I must be missing some other feature between these two K frames? Is the Hanen/Dayton barrel yet larger than the 15 heavy barrel?

Trying to decide which one to concentrate my efforts on and buy.

Appreciate the help - Paladin's old post on the 15 was really helpful.

The barrel on the Hanen Special from Dayton Gun is the same dimensions as the Model 10 heavy barrel, so it is much thicker than the later Model 15 non-tapered barrel. If I recall, the Hanen essentially uses a Model 10 heavy barrel with a Baughman Ramp with ramp base affixed by cross pins polished smooth so the pins are nearly invisible.

There were small batches of 4" Model 14's made, I have a four inch 14-3 that shipped 1970.
The 14-2 Hanen special is a different barrel than the standard wide rib Model 14.

There is a side by side pic if you scroll down to post 48 in this thread

Thanks for the link - one helluva thread you assembled there. What an awesome collection and authoritative amount of information. That was a lot of work and much appreciated.

The pictures are great and perfectly display the differences. I will be resuming my hunt with a far better education now.

Not too many Hanen/Dayton guns ever made, so good luck.
I lucked into a 2nd one recently, and have one from the first batch and one from the last batch!

Found two but the prices are nowhere commiserate with condition. Neither one was 100% unmolested - roachy chamber chamfer job on one the other pitting/corrosion under the Pachmayrs and single action push off. Grips incorrect on both pieces. I don't mind honest wear, but neither revolver was better than 80% at best.

I had a far easier time finding my 520, but it seems NIB is more common than fired when it comes to those... half a dozen of them for sale across the usual online sites even now.

I'll find a decent one at some point. Might find something even more tempting while looking!

Default 14-2 Hannen and 15-7

Here are 3 14-2's. The 2 nickel are sequential serial numbers and gently used but came with aftermarket stocks so I put these on. The blue 14-2 is in excellent condition. The 15-7 on the right came with rubber stocks...I think they look like uncle mike's ? Not sure but I dont care for rubber on blued steel so I put these elk horns on. I also have a 67-5 that my son has. Same profile as all of these...

Since these all seem harder to come by now days I suggest consider what comes your way first...

I am not an expert but I do think there are a few 14s in 4" that were not Hanen Specials produced as well...

Default Hanen special Dayton 14 2

I have one that I would like to show you. It is in fine condition and a beautiful piece. I've decided to let it go and I wonder what it may be worth. Default Pics of my hanen

I've attached a couple of photos of mine. It is practically unfired but has been holstered with a little rub on the barrel near the tip

Welcome Sheldon. Good looking gun. I think the gun would be worth more to a collector if it has the original box and papers.
To someone who is a shooter like me, they aren't as important.

This thread is dangerous, and could have been quite expensive.
After posting earlier, I did a search and found a pristine Dayton for sale. It came with the box and original papers.
I was on the phone trying to negotiate down the price, only to find out that it had been sold!
