Default My 57-0

New member here, so figured I'd share a little bit of my small collection so far. Got a text from my buddy in Louisiana 3 years ago, asking if I wanted a 41 mag. I said maybe, and he sent me a pic from the gunshop there. 4" no dash he says; I said how much- $650 + shipping...and I said "sold!" It aint perfect, but I like shooters and don't have a gun yet that I won't shoot.

Love me that that 41 mag flavor. Even over the 44. I have several of each, but by choice I usually grab a model 657, and a Henry inthe same caliber when knocking about the farm.

Nice score there! You did well.

Regards, Rick Gibbs

I am a big fan of the 41mag myself and have a delightful pair of mod 57's,
an S prefix safe queen and a N prefix shooter. Both so nice. I truly enjoy shooting my shooter. Surely, I'll never sell either one...

Welcome to the Forum! You'll find that quite a few Forum members have a fondness for the .41 Magnum. You picked up a very nice revolver for a great price. Sure, it's got some freckles, but you've got a great shooter. A little elbow grease and Renaissance Wax and it'll be fine. The first revolver that I ever purchased was a brand spankin' new S&W blued 4" Model 57 (ca. 1978) complete with mahogany presentation case and tools. Unfortunately the revolver was stolen during a break-in the following year, but they left the case behind. I had the case restored not too long ago (thanks Joe C.!), but it looked lonely. Although I've collected quite a few big bore magnums since then, believe it or not I didn't replace that Model 57 with another one until last year. And I paid considerably more than you did for yours a few years ago. My case now has a companion, and I'm happy. Enjoy!

Not perfect, but a great woods and field revolver. Oh, welcome to the S&W Forums!

Very nice. I'd love to have a 4" Model 57.

My old Model 58 from my LEO career and a 6" Model 57 (no dash) for the longer shots.

If you reload, the old police load of a cast 210 grain SWC at 800 fps is a moderate and accurate load and is easy on the gun and hand.

I do reload for it, 41M was the first toolhead I ever set up for my Dillon 550 actually! I think the LSWC I use are 215's maybe, and I use IMR4227 because I had a big jug of it and wasn't running it in anything else. I want to say my load chrono'd right around 1000 fps out of my 4 5/8" RBH, so my 4" 57 should be close to that; same load gets in the 1200 range in my Marlin lever action...

Read 87 bazillion posts here on cleaning up a gun with some "character" and you can get it looking pretty good. I would for sure pop the side plate and give the internals a good cleaning and lube. Great gun.

Welcome, Operation Iraqi Freedom 0304. I think you are going to like your 4" Model 57. Another big fan of the 41 magnum here. Now you need a 58 the go with it. Enjoy.

Welcome to the Forum . I have a Mod 57ND and 57-1. The 4” is the best for carrying.
