Default model 28-2 cylinder stop spring

Any one have a good system to install the cylinder stop or lock and the awful little spring that operates this part? I put a new spring less than a year ago and it slipped out under the lock and frame. Can the spring be too long? Each time I push the spring in , it kinks outward. HELP.

When you put that in, you have to gently push the forward end of the spring down with a small flat screwdriver so it's in line with the cyl. stop hole.
