Model K22/Model 17 Changes Over The Years?
I want to understand the changes in the K22 and Model 17 over the years.
Is there a document outlining what has changed in them anywhere?
I did a search but did not see anything.

IIRC the K22 was introduced in 1931,
The only consistent thing about the K22 was the constant small changes made to them which is what makes them so fun to collect.
I have most of the variations from introduction up until the 17-8 PC Heritage gun which is a retro tribute to the early K22 Outdoorsman.
Perhaps one day will do a thread on the six inch K22 evolution ,
Did a thread on the 4" Combat Masterpiece evolution from 1949 to about 1990 if interested here's a link.
Some Combat Masterpiece eye candy

A copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th edition will have this information and a lot more.

The SCSW is a great place to start,
But it really depends on how deep your focus is or how bad your OCD is.
The SCSW points out major mechanical changes but when you compare say a k22 made in 1947 you will see there are usually a few little things that are different than a k22 made in 1950 that may not be covered in the book.

If you are able to post the serial number we can give you plenty of specifics.

Thanks for the offer! I appreciate it.
I am just looking right now online. I am waiting for my state to approve my pistol permits (where I live I have to get a permit for EACH pistol I buy).
I want a 22LR target revolver and the model 17 is perfect for that being "the Masterpiece".

Don’t you just hate that requirement to wait for a permit for each and every purchase! That said, I hope you can get everything in order before your prospective buy gets away from you.
Although my first handgun was a High Standard Sentinel Deluxe nine-shooter, I converted over to semis for many years while doing Bullseye competition. As I’ve gotten older and do things in a more leisurely fashion, I’m becoming more convinced than ever that a K22 comes just about as close to perfection as one can get. Good luck in your quest and I hope you will enjoy it as I do mine!

I realize there are some reasons that make living in a particular location compelling even though other conditions make it less attractive...But I just don't think that, after a lifetime of being able to buy, sell, trade, acquire and carry what I like and change at will, I could be happy in such a place...But someone has to live everywhere and like it, so more power to you... ...Ben

The permits are a thrill arent they. We shall see how long, state approved, chief of police approved.
I have come to the conclusion that I dont need tactical this, tactical that nor do I want it. Not a Fudd by any means. New doesnt mean better.

I agree with you 1000%. Pretty much no one likes it due to the laws and taxes. Typical nanny state garbage. People mostly stay because their friends and family are here.
People should be aware though, this is what they want to do in other states. They just turned Delaware with an assault rifle ban, blah, blah. The disease is spreading.

Sale controls on private firearms are creeping in here in VA. The problem is the actual meanings and level of enforcement are so confusing, it’s hard to be in full compliance, but perhaps that’s the intent!

As I've said before, and will repeat as necessary, I love Pennsylvania! The taxes and (messed) up roads are about the biggest drawbacks. BUT, if you have no felonies or etc., etc., we are very gun friendly. Excellent hunting & fishing, very rare poisonous snake sightings, two good pro hockey, football, and baseball teams. (Okay, one good baseball team!). We even have a fresh water ocean!
Beat 'em, Bucs!
