Model 66-1 Roll Mark
Why would a Model 66-1 Have an ATF roll mark on the side of the grip frame with a 9 digit number behind it? The revolver does have a serial number on the butt.

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.
Is it a 60-1, as your title says, or a 66-1, as your text says?

SCSW mentions "Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms: Cal .357 Magnum, 4" barrel, 1012 manufactured" under the M66 variations. It doesn't say what dash it is, or what year they were issued though. I wonder if it's one of those?
It also says, "As with all models, law enforcement marked will bring a premium".
Post a picture.

I'm new here, haven't figured out how to post pictures yet. Says it wants a URL number and all I have is a picture on my phone.

This is how I post, select the Go Advance and click on the paper clip to load a pic from your phone. I hope this helps.

Thanks, but can't figure it out. I can get it to upload but can't get it to attach. Don't waste any more time on it. I'll try to figure it out 9ne day. But I am still interested in the ATF number. I think it may have been re-serialized for some reason.

Because the factory number had been obliterated or altered in some way and the ATF assigned a serial number to the gun. Probably it had been stolen previously, recovered with a damaged SN, and the ATF number assigned by the ATF. This makes the gun legal again, but the new ATF number is now the guns legal SN.

Same answer as your other post!
How many more do you have the same question about?

Welcome to the Forum
Why do you think it is a serial number?
If this firearm was the property of the ATF, like an issued firearm, it might have an inventory or property number on it
If this firearm was seized as evidence it is likely the case number
If you post a picture of what you are referring to, our guesses might be better

Pictures would help of the "ATF Serial Number" and the regular serial number and overall of the left and right sides.
Is someone trying to sell you the pistol with an other than factory serial number? If so I would simply not buy it.

Might be a legit gun that has an alpha-numeric serial number that begins with ATF. It could happen.........

The simplest way I have found to post photos:
Take photos with your phone.
Bring up this thread via your phone.
Click “Post Reply,” bottom left of the most recent post.
Scroll down to “Manage Attachments.”
“Click.”
Select your phone’s photos as the option.
Scroll through your photos to the front sight photos (should be right there if you just took the photos.)
“Click” on the one you want to post. After a moment you will be returned to the Manage Uploads page.
Click “Upload Photo” on the far right.
You can continue to upload up to five photos. When you are done uploading photos “click” close page.
This will return you to the Reply Post page. And your photo(s) should show as an attachment. “Click” post….
You photos should show up a thumbnails we can expand by tapping on the photo.
This procedure works with “Post Reply,” doesn’t work with “Quick Reply” but does work with “Edit.”

See answer #2. I once owned a 38/44 that had a ATF replacement serial number. That is not common but it does happen and is perfectly legal.

Two possibilities. It was either stolen and the original serial number was obliterated/altered by a criminal or it started out as a square butt and a gunsmith converted it to a round butt and had the ATF issue a new serial number. Converting square butts to round butts often cuts off the last few digits of the official serial number that is deeply stamped into the bottom of the grip frame.
