I'm sure this has been asked before, but does anyone have info or ideas on how to refurbish the moulded plastic trays with the blue felt on them? Thanks for info.

While we are the subject of box refurbishing, does anyone know where to get new metal corners like the ones used on the blue boxes? Thanks, ezb

Hey paperboy98
A few points to get you started! There were two types of plastic liners used and I restore both of them in a totally different manner. The type with a small compartment for the tools I cover with cloth. The original covering was a thin piece of foam rubber.

The other type plastic I repair cracks and/or holes then reflock the top and bottom.

jcelect, is it alright to store the gun in the case after you re-do it? I am wondering if the glue or flocking is bad for the finish on the gun. I have never tried it yet. I am thinking it might be easier to get you to do it.

Most collectors will tell you to store your guns loose or some (myself included) use good quality BREATHABLE gun rugs or treated pouches.

If you tend to oil your guns versus wax the flocking will come off.

29aholic, I guess that is why I need a couple of cases redone. I have a 29-2 that I got new about 1974 or 75 that was stored oiled in the case since new. The gun looks fine, but the interior of the case is bad. I am toying with getting a couple of cases redone, but don't want to mess up the guns or have to re-do the flocking in a few years. I always store my guns in the box they came in. Maybe I should start looking at something else.

Hey Waldo
All my N frame guns(almost all) are stored in a presentation case. I do not use oil that will soak into the cloth of the restored cases. Restoring my cases is what got me started on case restoration. I have a couple of guns not in period correct cases that have been reflocked and I have had no problems so far. To repeat, oil soaked guns will stain the new lining! ! ! !

This is an early 29 in a reflocked case after about five years. This case is not period correct!

This is a 29-3 in a cloth lined case and this one is period correct!

I redid my case and store my gun in it but I wrap the gun in the 'wax' paper that it came wrapped in.

Here is a couple of presentation cases. The one on the left is still original, the one on the right was redone by jcelect. His work is nothing short of stellar, he is also great to deal with. The 27 and the 29 in the photo both live in their cases with no ill effects.
Thanks for the oppurtunity to post one of my favorite photos!

Here's another fine example of a jcelect restored presentation case. This one is for my circa 1980 Model 25-5 6". Thanks Joe.
