I want to put night sights on a 2.5 inch Model 66. Anyone have any suggestions.? I'm finding rear sights and blades but not much in the way of a front sight. I'd really prefer different colors in the front and rear sights.
Thanks,
S/W - Lifer

Does your Model 66 have the red ramp front sight? If so, Meprolight makes an insert that you substitute for the red ramp. I don't recall the price, but I think it's not too bad. Another option would be pricier - a custom install of a new front sight, I think Weigund does this where he removes the front sight and mills a dovetail in place ready for a new sight like an Ashley large dot.
Best of luck,
Dave

I just installed a set of Mepro's on my 24-3 and it went alot easier than I expected. Just be careful with the detent plunger and spring when removing the rear sight.

Thanks, guys.
Double-0 I've not heard of Weigund. Do you have contact information?
tt66 - Was your installation substituting for the red ramp in the front sight blade?
Thanks again,
S/W - Lifer

Yes it was. I used a punch to remove the red insert. I know, it made me cringe, then applied loctite and tapped in the new insert. I was worried about the front but it went really easy. Be sure to read the front and back of the direction sheet. I tells you about the detent plunger on the back, it should be in big letters on the front as well. I did capture the plunger and the spring, I used a the tip of a toothpick to capture the spring. My only problem with the reinstallation was that the hole in the new site screw was to small for the plunger to go in. I have to get another screw or drill the hole a little larger in the one that they sent. It all went together but right now I do not have the detent for the windage adjustment.

I have a 66-3 3" that I belive for lew horton. It is ported and has the trilijon sight. It does need a new charged insert as mine is faint. I havent worried about it as I no longer work and have many guns. However I did do 30 years of graveyard guard work, and they make a lot of sense to me. Anybody know who will do mine?

feralmerril: I think that Trijicon did the front night sights for the F-Comp. They have great customer service and can put a new insert in yours.

Merril,
I was told by 38/44 these folks re-lamp Meprolites
http://www.ptnightsights.com/
Likely the night sights on yours are Trijicon's? And IIRC, ToolTech in Michigan re-lamps those and are factory authorized. I don't have the link to them handy, I'll post it here when I find it.

Spotteddog, thanks I will look over the info. I suspect I may do nothing unless I can locate a source that is in a area that I might travel thourgh legaly with the gun to fix while I am there. I dont want to pay shipping, and no longer am working. I would like it to be spec though. Mine doesnt have the two on the rear sight, just the front.(edited) Hey it dawned on me maybe I could just drift out the front sight and send it. I would get a smith with a delicate touch, as I aint. What do you think?
