Welcome! THe R prefix started in 1969 and with the low serial number it likely shipped that year.

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.

That's a desirable, low serial number. The first Model 60 with an R serial number shipped on May 23, 1969. S&W didn't ship in serial number order. Serial number R1, for example shipped on May 22, 1970. Based on a few others in the database that bracket yours it would be a good guess to believe yours might have shipped in July 1969.

If yours has the original walnut stocks the serial number sans "J" will be stamped on the inside of the right stock. Also, there will be an "S" stamped on the bottom of the barrel and lower left side of the grip frame (seen with the stock removed), and there will be a "V" stamped on the back of the cylinder.

We like photos.
