Today I found a Model 68 in excellent condition with the presentation box (included a belt buckle). If possible, please advise approx. value. The gun room I visited is asking $650.
Thank you in advance for your responses.

Dick - Thank you for your response and the photo. The 68 I'm looking to buy appears to NIB as well. It was marked down from $700 to $650 which confused me a little. Lately around here in California we only see increases not discounts.

Is it a CHP or an LAPD revolver?

Awesome guns. That configuration is perfect for shooting .38s. Wish I could find a CHP model. It would go nicely with the LAPD one I have now.

Bob - If you don't mind me asking, what is the value of your LAPD model. I want to be sure $650 is about right. It appears so based on Dick's response. - Jim

I believe you're looking at the CHP Commemerative 68, not an issued 68. The "winged wheel" engraving (or etching) is the give away. An issued 68, will simply have CHP stamped on the left side fo the frame (often over-stamped OHP when the CHP sold them as surplus. Any still marked CHP would have been purchased by the officer.

The issued stamping looks like

Forgot to add, $650 sounds like a fair price in CA (where we get to pay more for the unsafe versions).

Hello Mike - Yes, it is the CHP Commemerative 68. It has the winged wheel engraving as you mentioned. Based on the responses I received this evening, it appears I'll be spending $650 tomorrow morning.
