Greetings:

I am trying to find out a little about a revolver that was passed on to me from my father. I am curious about when it was manufactured.

It's barrel markings are "38 S&W Special CTG"

When I open the cylinder there are markings on the frame "MOD 10-5" and on the same component as the cylinder is what appears to be "C 2555" and the letter "E".

The barrel is 6 inches long.

The serial number on the butt of the grip is c889174"

The revolver is in fantastic shape, and I'd love to know a little more about it.

Regards,

DRH

It looks like your Model 10-5 was made in 1966 if I am reading it correctly. The 10 is one of the all time classic handguns and was made in many barrel lengths and variations. The 6" model isn't as "sexy" as the 2" and will bring a bit less on the used market but a nice one today will still fetch $250-$400 depending on condition and who is shopping.

Built on the K frame the Model 10 (numbers assigned in 1957) grew from the original Military & Police Model (10s are still called M&Ps). This was the gun first chambered for the wildly popular 38 Special cartridge.

In stainless steel this gun became the Model 64.

Thanks for the information.

It's a lot of fun to shoot, and I was fortunate to get it while it was in exceptional condition.
