That is quite a beauty and it looks like it is a pre 27 and probably worth well over a grand. If you can't afford the correct diamond wood grips buy some plastic pearl grips with the S&W monogram. It would look a whole lot better and it already looks great!

Yep, pre-Model 27 in the very desirable and more valuable 3.5" barrel length.
Darn nice gun.
Manufacture date 1954-1955 according to Nahas and Supica's Standard Catalog of S&W, 3d. Edition.

Definitely a pre-27 and a nice one at that. You are correct on the 3 1/2" bbl. The S placement is pretty normal.
Dont have my book handy, but I am going to say about 1954. I believe 1953 started at S113XXX.

Correct diamond grips in great shape would be real pricy (around $300) so a good set of later N frame Targets would really dress up the gun. The non diamond targets would be half of the cost or less (around $100) of the correct grips.
27-2 with non diamond targets
Another option off Ebay is a set of new diamond grips sold by S&W for $66 and there is a dealer on Ebay sells them for $45

Smooth targets look pretty good on a pre 27 also.

Thanks for all the great info guys. I was very happy to get another gun out of Florida before the elements got to her. She unfortunately didn't fair as well as my grandfathers model 36 she has some pitting but I am going to get some stuff from the gun shop that will hopefully neutralize it so of doesn't get worse. What would you guys estimate the value at? I won't ever sell it but I do make sure my insurance is up to date as I add to the collection.

H Richard, Those are some of the nicest grips that I have seen Patrick make. Is it possible to see a picture for the other side also?

This 27-2 3.5", made in 1978, is my "barbeque" gun. The grips were specially made for it by Collins, and are perfect in every respect. I acquired the gun ANIB, and put 20 rounds through it just to sight it in. If you want to dress up your snubby 27, Collins grips might be a good option.

Very nice revolver.
another option would be some "Cokes" or some Magna's made by forum member Kurac. Not original, but some of the nicest looking grips I have ever seen. And yes, I own several sets.
