I went to my local gun show today hoping to find something that I just had to take home with me. One item at the top of my list was a model 25. I found a guy selling one just a few tables inside the door. I looked it over and thought that it looked to be in very good shape. I then gave it back to him and walked the rest of the show. Not much else caught my eye. There were not a lot of Smiths there to be found. So, I went back to see if the M25-2 was still there. It was. So, I looked it at some more and decided to buy it. I am happy with my decision and can't wait to shoot it now.

It is a 6 inch barrel with a serial # N759XXX. Based on that I would surmise it is a 70's gun...I think.

Let me know what you think... and what do you think that this might be worth?

Enjoy the pics.

You are going to love that gun!!!! Born in 1980.
I predict that you will be buying 50 moon clips and getting 100ds of 45 acp rounds very soon!
I paid 500 for mine in same condition last year.
and I thought I did okay.
Peter.
As a final note It seems as though the cylinder doesnt quite match,,,, Mabey it was rebarreled?
I dont know, sometimes the blueing just looks different.

Nice! That looks like a target hammer and trigger. Am I right? Is this the standard setup with this model?

In real nice shape without box or papers, these rnu in the $550-600 range. Add $100 or so for presentation case, tools etc. REAL nice examples, with all the accessories go for $750 and up.

Sir, most (all?) 25-2s came standard with target hammer, trigger, and stocks. From the pix, this particular gun looks like its target trigger has been narrowed, a fairly common modification.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I noticed the trigger also, from the side I thought it was a non - grooved model, I have a pinned 6.5" 25 with a .400 width smooth trigger. But the grooves are definitely there in the front shot photo.

I just bought a 6.5" bbl'd model with presentation box, tools and papers, in about 98% condition, for $545. I guess I made out pretty well. I think your going to like that gun! I've been told the 6.5" is more desirable than the 6", but I like the looks of a 6" better. Congrats.

Here is a question for you guys... do you have to shoot this gun with the moon clips attached to the cartridge?

I can't wait to shoot it.

Sir, the moon clips are not necessary to fire the gun. Its chambers have the same "step" for headspacing as a 1911's chamber. The clips do aid in extraction--the extractor star can't get a purchase on the rimless .45 ACP cases without the clip. However, most .45 ammo is loaded to low enough pressures that you can just pick the fired cases out with your fingers. In my gun, usually about half of the fired cases will simply fall out of the chambers with the cylinder open and the muzzle elevated.

If you need to be able to empty and reload the gun quickly, as in IDPA or the like, then the clips are the way to go.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Dutcher987;
I have a pair of 625's and they are among my most cherished revolvers. They shoot EXTREMELY well.

When using .45 ACP cases at the range I prefer RIMZ clips. Theses are polymer (instead of steel) last nearly forever and allow you to EASILY load them with your fingers:

http://www.ezmoonclip.com/

Steel full moon clips require tools for most of us to load and unload.

Of course, another solution, is to use Starline .45 Auto Rim cases. Then, no clips are needed. To get the best price on Auto Rim cases, order them direct from Starline (500 or more, they pay shipping).

Good luck with your new acquisition.

Here is my 25-2 6 inch barrel. It is my most accurate gun. I traded a model 60 3 inch john Jovino square butt for it....
