I have an Austin Behlert tweaked 25-5 that has been Magna-Ported.

I am not sure if it helps on recoil, I haven't shot a non-ported 25-5. But, it does have a very managable barrel flip. That combined with a round butt conversion has made it my wifes favorite big bore.

Cleaning is no different than with a non-ported gun except for the soot around the ports, which cleans off very easily.

Value wise, I think it hurts the value because it is no longer stock. Also it may be harder to sell because of the porting, a lot of people don't like it. If a person is ambivilent about, or wants the porting it may not effect value that much.

That's my 2 pennies worth.

I have it on a few magnums and I highly recommend it with a caveat - it lowers resale interest.

On my 3" 629-2 it's the difference between pain and pleasure. My friend has a 3" LH that I can't shoot but the same load through mine is no big deal.

Mag-na-port is a proprietary EDM process only performed at Mag-na-port in Mt. Clements, Michigan. Some guns were shipped directly from S&W for the service and then sold as specials. The majority of ported guns were done as an aftermarket mod by the owner (Larry Kelly did very well with this business and his son is still in operation today).

Aftermarket porting hurts resale value (as a general rule), just like a Cutts Compensator, Polychoke or muzzle break on a gun that didn‘t come with it. Originally equipment is different (if you can prove it), but it usually doesn't bring a premium over standard guns.

These mods/devices are effective in reducing felt recoil and a number of competitive shooters and hunters swear by them. It usually makes the gun louder to bystanders and is fairly obnoxious on the line.
