Just got into collecting S&W revolvers. This Saturday I picked up a S&W Model 28-2 serial #N534407 Can anyone tell me when it was made what its worth? The gun is in great shape. I paid $270.00+it came with 500rds of .357mag. Was this agood deal?

Did you look back to see if you had the police after you?
What a deal.

In today's market, any N-frame that hasn't been dragged behind a truck is worth more than what you paid. Consider the ammo free.

You must be really new to collecting S&W if you paid that much for it. I'm suprised that there weren't sirens going off when you got it because at that price you stole it. Great deal because the 500 rounds of ammo is worth at least a $100 even if it's reloads.

It was made somewhere around 1978 or 1979.
You got a very good deal. If the 500 rounds ARE reloads, it may be prudent not to fire them.
My general rule is don't shoot somebody else's reloads.

Sure sounds better than what they have been going for around here. What are the details on the gun like barrel length and so on?

No, it was a great deal!! Being in the market for a 27 or 28, all I'm finding are very expensive ones.

Welcome to this forum.
I will go the other way on the deal. If it is top quality ammo and considering the price of 10 - 50 round boxes of quality .357 currently, I think you should consider that you got the gun for free.

texas s&w,
Welcome to S&W forum.
You don't have to call me "sir", it's all in good fun.
If you have a picture you would like posted, you can e-mail it to me, and I will post it for you.
p.s. that's not really a picture of me (ha ha).

Tenntucker & fyimo, my deepest admiration, respect and thanks to you and your organization. My brother was KIA near Balad, Iraq on October 25, 2007. Our local Patriot Riders attended his funeral. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You are TRUE American heroes.
