Greetings,

My 432 has grooves routed in the backstrap and trigger guard presumably to try to shave off weight. I know S&W also does this on the 617 as well, but was wondering why this isn't done on the 642...is it because the .38 S&W is more powerful, and thus, more stressful, than the lower powered .32 H&R magnum and .22 caliber rounds?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Regards,

Dave

They put the “lightening cuts” on the 296 (L frame), 317 and 342 as well. It was a bad idea to do that to the back of the trigger guard on a harder kicking gun. It creates two edges sharp enough to dig into your knuckle under recoil, especially if you have sausage fingers like me. If they did that to a 340PD, it would draw blood.
