I stumbled across this very nice Md 25-2 6 1/2 inch gun that was made in 1977. It is marked .45 cal Model 1955. It comes with the original box, moon clips, moon tool but no other tools or papers. I am told the only marks are the cylinder turn ring. It would cost me $630 OTD. The wife says I will have to pick one to go away if I pick up this one. I think it is a deal. What say you?

I would check the cylinder throats to make sure they are not oversized if you want good accuracy. They should be around .452 and not .456 to .458. Otherwise a good find.

Did the .45 ACP guns have this issue as well? I had thought it was only the .45 Colts

I know the 45 Colt had the problem up to a -5 which I had and I can't find my notes relating when it was changed for the 45 Colt.

I seem to remember reading about problems with accuracy of the 45 ACP and I can't remember whether it was the cylinder or not. The ones I have shot didn't seem to have an accuracy problem.

I was buying a lot of S&W's during the late 70's and early 80's with all being hand selected for workmanship. The dealer was getting a lot of Smiths you couldn't find anywhere but I had to pay list price. At that time there was no knowledge about the cylinder throat issue. I would still check to be safe.

Excellent decision. Excellent revolver. The 25-2 6 1/2 is the next one I'm picking up when the time's right. Glad I didn't come across it, though, because the money just isn't there (yet), and I would have hated to pass it up.

Enjoy.

I've shot the twin to your new gun. It had absolutely no accuracy problems that I'm good enough to notice!

Those stocks are really nice for factory too, great buy!

She is being shipped out tomorrow and not a minute to soon. The Md 25-2 that is. I have had my wife for 31 years this December. She lets me buy most any gun I want. It's cheaper to keep her.

I just sold mine this past weekend for $550, no box, no papers. Mine had the slightly larger cylinder measurements and wouldn't group for squat...but it was pretty! Guy just wanted it to look at....

I bought one from Lee Jarret about a year ago for just about exactly the same privce once shipping and transfer fees were added. Mine was unfired, has RR/WO sights which are unusual on a 25-2 and rosewood targets. Came with a presentation case in distressed condition, inside and out, no tools or papers. Bottom line: I think that is a very fair price. I have been tracking 25-2 prices on GB since I bought mine, and around $600-650 seems to be the very bottom price for an average condition gun. Several have sold for upwards of $750 and a couple near $900.

The .45 ACP model of 1950 that I have has oversize throats too. It does not shoot too badly that I have noticed with ball ammo at 7 yards. I have not tested it at longer range, but would not expect stellar accuracy.
