Withtherear sight all the way down, the gun shoots 2-3" high at 50' with my .38 pet HBWC's. Someone replaced the org with a Brownells. I always thought the dimensions given with the S&W replacements refered to the notch width, not the blade height. Can I purchase "short" rear sight blades, or do I order one and do a little filing to correct my POI.

That's a Wiegand rear sight blade.
You could change to a taller front sight or get a new rear sight blade, available as a kit from S&W, Brownell's and probably Midway.

OK..I stand corrected on the manufacturer of the exsisting rear sight blade, but the question still stands on weather I can purchase shorter rear blades. It's an 8 3/8" bbl, can't change the the front sight. Where might I start hieght wise on the rear blade...Thanks...2#

Call Brownell's and ask for tech support. They'll give you the info you need on the blade height.
