According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition, your gun in Excellent condition lists for $400-The box for that time period would add at least $50 in some cirles or more (if it was either the gold box, the blue sun ray box, or the S & W blue two piece solid line box.)

19-1 was made from 1959-61. I believe a collector would pay $500 or more depending on condition, and if the grips and box are original (numbered) to the gun.

It is a rare beast. $400 is the going rate for later, more common, versions of the 19.

You're welcome. I'm certainly not an expert, and I don't collect 19's, so I try to err on the conservative side.

Is there a screwdriver (sight adjusting tool) included? If it is, and if it's original (aluminum knurled-handle, with black oxide shaft, and long tapered end) you can add another $75.

Your s/n, according to the SCSW, is from 1960.

Dear Hoot:
The sealed plastic bag has an aluminum, hooked end cleaning rod with a bronze brush, long wool swab and a screwdriver similar to the one you described but with a fluted aluminum handle with a hole in the top and black oxide shaft. The box also has what looks like brown butcher paper but with a printed S&W pattern for wrapping the pistol.
I will take some pictures and will post them. I read the instructions from forum member BD Green in the S&W Forum Office Section on how to post photographs and it looks straight forward, but this will be the first time. It will probably take me a day to take the photographs and get them posted.

It appears to me the 19-1 you've described is better than 95%. Without pictures, I'm flying blind but sounds to me like a deal in the $550 to $650 range (maybe a little higher).

jdpress, your 19-1 was most likely shipped in or around 1961. I own K465xxx, which was shipped on 11/1/1962. Your condition estimate sounds conservative, but it is hard to pinpoint without seeing it in person. As mentioned, later 95% 19s usually fetch $350-$450, so a 19-1 would bring a significant premium, though less than a Pre-19. I hope that helps.

If you decide to sell it (I wouldn't if I were you), please let me know.

I agree with Jeremy. I own a couple of 19-1's (along with a bunch of other 19's) and 19-1's are the hardest to find, especially with the box and all of the goodies... Please put me on your list (behind Jeremy of course) if you decide to convert the gun to cash. For those of us that collect the Combat Magnums, a 19-1 in the condition that you are describing would be a very nice piece of the puzzle.

Beautiful! Definitely a keeper! However, the target triger ("TT") and target hammer ("TH") are not noted on the box and may have been added later... Maybe the TT and TH are what came in the 1962 parts bag?

You are correct! The standard trigger and hammer are wrapped in wax paper inside smaller envelopes in the parts bag, along with an extra firing pin and some drift pins.

Wow that is a great example of K frame magnum goodness.

Yup, I agree. If I saw that package at one of my local haunts I would be willing to go $800-850. I never run into 19-1's in nice condition.

Looks like a dandy, I've got 2 19's. A 4" and 21/2" paid 500.00 each.
Saw at a gun show last week a new in the box 19-3 non fired as shipped from factory everything included along with a S&W letter of history. the guy wanted 1000.00 I didn't pursue it.

You never WILL run into them for that price either.
This thread started TWO YEARS ago, and the 750- 850 price Bill put on it would be about double now.
So, if you find a whole package as shown in pics for 850, my advice would be buy it.

The stocks on this gun shown would bring up to almost half the value of that 750...........

I have a 19-1,serial # k4584xx,according to standard catalog is around 1961. is there any new info. on number of 19-1's produced and how rare they really are and also current values as of 2014.

I don't believe anyone knows how many 19-1s have been produced and I am not aware of anyone keeping track of how many have been reported. Generally, this model variation was only shipped in 1962 and is what I would call "scarce". I am not current on pricing, but the one I have is 99 percent or better and I would not sell it for less that $1600 (if I was to offer it for sale).

Looks like this thread comes up every couple of years but the OP was 2008 !

NIB with docs and tools in perfect cond maybe $1500 to the right buyer but gun only in super high cond IMO $900 tops.

We had a 19-1 sell for $600 two years ago and a VG+ condition no box for $895 like two weeks ago IIRC .
We also had a 19-1 in shooter grade cond with cosmetic issues advertise for $800 but did not sell .

The shooter grade sold for $650.

Blue Book lists the 2014 price for a 95% 19-1 at $1050. A 98% is $1600. I would say yours is certainly between those with at least $50 - 100 for the box with tools. If you are going to buy/sell on any regular basis, an online subscription is well worth the money.

Someone would really need to fill a gap in the collection which is closer to $850 for just the gun in high condition IMO.

The OP gun was LNIB with everything original in 2008 but back then they were much less.

Nothing mystical the transitional 19-1 is a leftover 4 screw frame with the new R hand threaded ejector rod and cylinder.

I think it is worth at least $1200 or more.

The 19-1 has the improved extractor rod and stem with a left-hand thread and 4-screw frame. This model variation doesn't generate the interest and value of a 29-1, but it is probably as scarce. I looked for many years before I found the one I have.

Glad this one popped to the top--that's the third -1 box I've seen with that tinted ink on the label--not sure of the significance, but feeling better about the one (27-1 6 1/2") I have.
